Hey Mike. We have a whole section on that in our white paper, as well as more briefly in our faq which you can check out on our website: www.infiniverse.net. But adding onto what Elim already said: the blockchain stores the persistent state of the digital world. Therefore users aren't concerned that all the time and effort spent building land and assets in Infiniverse will go to waste. The world can continue to live on for as long as users want it to, rather than for as long as some company decides they want to run the servers (which has happened to many online games before that they shut down despite still having millions of users)

You're confusing the benefits of being open source with the benefits of being on a blockchain, in the example you stated. As long as it's open source, any game can live forever. However, I didn't know this was a game at first. Assets that users have ownership over definitely need to be on a blockchain, and transferred over a blockchain, but not the entire software.

What parts of the software need to be verifiable? I don't think it's a big deal to get people from the community to host a server. EOS was released by Block.one and relied on the community to start working with it. As for who pays for the server, there are various funding models. This could even be incentivized with a token, but the servers don't need to be decentralized. If it's cheaper, fine. But I don't see the use-case. Hybrid models that use centralized and decentralized systems work fine.

As @haggbart said, you can have the same key for owner and active permissions if you want to. There are many options and scenarios, but how about this one?... Set your owner key as one generated by your ledger, and your active key generated separately. At the moment there's reduced functionality through the ledger. This approach would allow high security for your crucially important owner key, and improved functionality with your active key. You could stake any eos you don't need immediate access to and set up an alert (eg through eosauthority) in case anyone (a hacker/scammer) tries to unstake your tokens. Then you can override the hacker using your owner key via your ledger.

I mean... if you're tampering with the backups then there's not much I can do :P In the new Scatter 9 it forces you to select an Automatic Backups location which will save backups every time you make changes in your Scatter. They are also separated by months so you always have more backups in the case of a bad file

keep in mind ledger eos app doesn't support changing permissions yet, so if hacker access active key and change it, you have some problems

True. I see the ledger as a good way (particularly for those without knowledge of good security practices) to securely create and keep an owner key. Then if the worst happens you'd have to derive the private owner key from the ledger's seed in order to change the active key if you get hacked or scammed. Then you may consider the owner key exposed and want to change that by setting up a ledger with a new seed, or by adding a strong passphrase to the old seed. I don't imagine it'll take too long for changing of permissions through a ledger to be supported though.

I want some pegged assets on eos so that people can avoid taxable events every time they use a dapp, buy RAM, create an account, paint a pixel, roll a die et cetera. It's not a problem caused by eos, but is nonetheless a __complete__ pain in the neck. It depends upon tax jurisdictions, but if people could use an asset very tightly pegged to their local currency it could alleviate the problem of taxable events couldn't it? (particularly with decent on-ramps to buy the pegged asset). Dapps could take payment and convert straight to eos. Even if it involves the compromise of using oracles, I think it would be valuable. Perhaps there's something like this in the horizon @daniellarimer ?

I want some pegged assets on eos so that people can avoid taxable events every time they use a dapp, buy RAM, create an account, paint a pixel, roll a die et cetera. It's not a problem caused by eos, but is nonetheless a complete pain in the neck. It depends upon tax jurisdictions, but if people could use an asset very tightly pegged to their local currency it could alleviate the problem of taxable events couldn't it? (particularly with decent on-ramps to buy the pegged asset). Dapps could take payment and convert straight to eos. Even if it involves the compromise of using oracles, I think it would be valuable. Perhaps there's something like this on the horizon @daniellarimer ?

Could you please explain more why this alleviates tax burdens? Or share documentation on the idea? Thank you very much!

My suggestion has been to change incentives so that renting tokens gives better risk-adjusted ROI than creating a sock puppet BP, and implement changes to token renting (REX) so that lending tokens transfers voting rights to the lendee. This way users who care about ROI would lend their tokens instead of messing with BP voting.

If the pegged currency is tightly pegged to your local currency it's value wouldn't move significantly against your local currency, so there would be no significant capital gains or losses. For example, imagine a pegged asset 'peggedUSD'. You buy 100000 peggedUSD for $100000. If the peg is tight, it will always be worth $100000. Therefore no gains or losses against your local currency, the USD. Creating such a tight peg would involve the use of at least one oracle to match the value of the asset on the blockchain to that of the local currency in the real world (unless someone's solved this hard problem without my knowing about it).

I suppose that depends on your jurisdiction. In many places this would be tax-free I think. I assume you're talking about gambling/betting. There will be many dapps where people are merely paying for services. In this case the disposal of the pegged asset wouldn't (I imagine) create a taxable event if the peg was good.

That's not correct globally. Some justifications tax you when you dispose of an asset, even if you're not going back to fiat.

Absolutely true. I believe this is the crux of crypto for a lot of regulators. Its very hard to identify which agency has jurisdiction, and each country is free to treat them differently. Hence a lot of people moving to Puerto Rico 😉

I'm echoing what Brendan said this morning. Not all applications will want to launch on EOS for a number of reasons, one of them being governance restrictions others being performance and privacy. Many chains will exist with IBC. On possible scenario is that block one are happy as long as EOS were to remain the base token for all EOSIO tokens both on EOS and also on other chains. Block one remain silent on actual details so it's impossible to know if this is an accurate extrapolation of what has been said.

I want some pegged assets on eos so that people can avoid taxable events every time they use a dapp, buy RAM, create an account, paint a pixel, roll a die et cetera. It's not a problem caused by eos, but is nonetheless a complete pain in the neck. It depends upon tax jurisdictions, but if people could use an asset very tightly pegged to their local currency it could alleviate the problem of taxable events couldn't it? (particularly with decent on-ramps to buy the pegged asset). Dapps could take payment and convert straight to eos. Even if it involves the compromise of using oracles, I think it would be valuable. Perhaps there's something like this on the horizon @daniellarimer ?

I’m looking to start a Wyoming based bank and was thinking of creating a USD stablecoin on EOS. All cash reserves would be on a ledger for transparency. I’ve already talked to their legislative committee and the banking commissioner a couple of days ago. ETA for a bank would be Dec 2019
