The data and transactions need to be verifiable. On your second point, sure, it's possible, but would be more difficult (and take much longer to organize).
We agree then. If a hybrid approach is more complex for you, that's understandable, but right now, centralized services as going to be more cost-effective. The goal should be to use blockchain where needed.

What do you think of this idea of making use of the new Cloudflare IPFS gateway to run dApps? https://medium.com/@liquideos/liquideos-presents-the-dapp-network-931402c6286
"It is also our belief that these can become an actual cost-effective alternative to conventional app hosting methods as soon as IBC and side chains become widely available. More on that coming soon…"
Do they mean that It will be cheaper than centralized solutions or just more competitive? I think it's certainly possible to be cheaper, I'd just like to know how.

1) In addition to the five nodes of the eoshobipool, cryptokylini, eosiosg11111, cochainworld, and eospaceioeos controlled by Firecoin (the detailed analysis below), the fire coins will vote for the remaining 20 nodes. Of the 20 nodes, 16 nodes and Firecoin reciprocated, and the remaining 4 nodes eosgenblockp, eosbeijingbp, eoseouldotio, eospacificbp, and eoslaomaocom were not voted back.
2) Fire coins add votes to starteosiobp, eosflytomars, eoscannonchn and other nodes. These nodes also increase the number of votes on the fire coins. It can be said that the payment of the fire coins has been "returned".
3) atticlabeosb is the only node that voted for the fire coin, but did not get the fire coin back.

True. I see the ledger as a good way (particularly for those without knowledge of good security practices) to securely create and keep an owner key. Then if the worst happens you'd have to derive the private owner key from the ledger's seed in order to change the active key if you get hacked or scammed. Then you may consider the owner key exposed and want to change that by setting up a ledger with a new seed, or by adding a strong passphrase to the old seed.
I don't imagine it'll take too long for changing of permissions through a ledger to be supported though.
Can you use two ledgers, one for active and one for owner?

We agreed that its possible to have a game's servers move to a different host if it's open source and not decentralized. But in this case its important for the data to be on the blockchain so that all transactions are publicly verifiable as the digital assets being transacted can potentially be very valuable.

I was there but didn't heard any news and that would pleased me as i've worked on the privacy of storing biometeic data on the blockchain and that is a big issue
Biometric data can be faked, so it wouldn't be appropriate for uniquely identifying humans. It would be appropriate for a universal identity system however. (Two different things.)

I’m looking to start a Wyoming based bank and was thinking of creating a USD stablecoin on EOS. All cash reserves would be on a ledger for transparency.
I’ve already talked to their legislative committee and the banking commissioner a couple of days ago. ETA for a bank would be Dec 2019
So the asset would be 100% backed by USD, held in your bank?

I’m very happy it is fake and I’m sorry. I was horrified I guess. I apologise for doubting the Chinese BPs in the document. There’s nothing worse than being held responsible for things you haven’t done or being smeared by lies.
My only concern is the integrity of this community. I hope that we can continue to work together to always strengthen EOS’s integrity.

yeah you're probbly right because it's difficult to proof it and some kind of "vote buying / seeling" could already happen everywhere
You can't prove someone is buying votes, but you can prove someone is selling votes by setting up sting operations. We could make it so that a deposit is lost if you're caught selling your vote. It is my fear that this solution will only be considered after a horrible event occurs that damages the reputation of DPoS systems. If an adversary wanted to control the blockchain, they could do so much more cheaply by buying votes rather than buying up EOS.

yeah i really think transering the voting rights via delegation is the day to gooo
The voting rights would come along with the EOS being rented. Voting rights alone is not going to be delegated, that's just pure vote buying. Basically, you want an attacker to have to spend as much as possible in order to attack the system. Voting rights alone would be too cheap, and easily bought by a large interest group.

No, you can vote for up to 30 BPs with your EOS
If true, I don't know why this was implemented, but it seems like a flaw in the design. Even if you have 30 votes, you should be able to vote for yourself with all votes to prevent giving an unfair advantage to colluders.

Don't have any data available but this has been researched and 30 is the best number to ensure the most even distribution

Obviously not. You can't force people to distribute votes, and I'm not sure "even distribution" is a necessary objective. You should be able to split your voting power however you want. Now we are suffering the consequences.

Hi, EOS Community! I asked the Trezor Suppport about Trezor One integration with EOS. They told me, that it is the matter of the EOS community itself. I asked the EOS.io support about it, and they told me, that I should shout out in the Telegram Group about this important issue.

Chintai is a new community-owned feeless decentralized token leasing platform where users can stake their eos on the market to earn interest from other users who need to lease bandwidth. The smart contract handles order matching on-chain and holds all funds securely in a multisig wallet owned by the 11 sponsor BPs.
We are live on the junglenet and looking for people to help us test and finalize last minute bugs before we go live on the main net soon. We do have a bug bounty program so if you find a bug you can earn some EOS. Chintai.io

A good start is to just ask the community first, Google, YouTube etc for research into questions like this.

Biometric data can be faked, so it wouldn't be appropriate for uniquely identifying humans. It would be appropriate for a universal identity system however. (Two different things.)
Humans can be faked too, think of cloning.

If true, I don't know why this was implemented, but it seems like a flaw in the design. Even if you have 30 votes, you should be able to vote for yourself with all votes to prevent giving an unfair advantage to colluders.
That would be colluding by itself.

If true, I don't know why this was implemented, but it seems like a flaw in the design. Even if you have 30 votes, you should be able to vote for yourself with all votes to prevent giving an unfair advantage to colluders.
1 token is 1 vote but you can vote for up to 30 bp's with it.
100 tokens is 100 votes.
If you take 100 tokens and vote for yourself, you get 100 votes from it.
29 other bp's can benefit from those tokens too if you decide to add them to your vote.
It makes NO sense to pick less than 30 bp's.
The only reason would be because you are not able to make an informed decision based on the lack of knowledge regarding who the bp';s are, what they have contributed so you would hold back your votes until you can verify you are voting for good bp's to align the health of the network.
What we are seeing from some large whales is they are only voting for themselves and their buddies. That's GREAT for them, but unhealthy for the network, and the network is made of users, members, average joe's.
So whales don't give a shit about average joe's if they're only voting for themselves.
If anyone is feeling uninformed, come talk to the bp's directly @eoswatchdogs. We vote for the top 30 hardest working bp's so set your proxy to eoswatchdogs and know that your votes are helping and not hurting EOS.

Hello, could you guys help me and answer few questions?
1. Why did you chose exactly this initial supply and number of validators?
2. Conditions for unlocking the stake?
3. Why did you chose exactly such level of minimum stake to become validator?
5. How do you think inflation
influences on your project?
6. Could you advice me some literature about token engineering?

Humans can be faked too, think of cloning.
Fortunately we don't have to deal with this yet. Anyway, I assume cloning will be highly regulated when the tech comes out, anyway. It wouldn't be ethical to alter their brains so that they can only vote for you or something, if that's what you're talking about. All new humans would have to be autonomous. We'd also have to decide on how many are allowed to be created and who can create them.

It also exposes the bad actors and allows the comunity to form a "imune system" to fight back against it. I'm not scared, I'm not worried. I'm excited to watch the healing process and I'm very excited to spearhead some efforts myself.
You're welcome EOS.

The fee is charged through inflation. I really don't agree with EOS' "fee-less" PR stunt.
The difference is, you don’t get penalized if you do a lot of transactions, encouraging to interact with the network a lot.

Because EOS has its own ecosystem, you can build a better YouTube, Twitter and messenger on EOS, why bother with tipping on other systems and encourage people to create content there instead in the eos network?

I think differently. We are so young and news. Best way to expand our reputation is to show out icon and everyday tip, sends on non bc system first ( billion users) , then they will find out eos speed is so fast and free and migrant to our network later on. But, attact the popular non blockchain system first is smart move

I am particularly interested in its potential to introduce the masses to a blockchain application.
I believe a web client (similar to condenser for Steem 1.0) that is easy to deploy and customize will be key to getting the masses on to Steem 2.0. Such a client will enable ordinary content creators to easily switch to Steem 2.0 while maintaining their brands (domain names, UXes, designs, colours etc.). The masses will follow the content creators.

A base token is the base from which all other tokens are traded on exchanges. BTC is a base token, ETH too. EOS is currently the based token for all EOS based tokens. The value of a base token is derived from the worth / value of all other tokens traded from it.
This isn't true. The marketcaps are completely separate. EOS doesn't gain in value if Telos goes up as well, but there could be a tangential relationship in price, much like BTC and altcoins.

I said anything imaginable so let's use some imagination of what could be possible in a fork. What about some rules to enforce that exchanges can never be a BP. How about changes to the voting system to make it weighted and fairer across the board.
Agree with fairer voting system, but we can't ban exchanges. It would just force them to assume a new identity, and we wouldn't even know who it actually is, which is worse.

you appear to be ignoring that at the moment it's an alegation that should probably be proven before we grab pitch forks and start shouting at the top 21 BPs to vote on ejecting other top 21 BPs
The point is, we should have a game theory that disincentivize so collusion to begin with rather than waiting for it to happen and then slapping the perpetrators on the wrist, if it can even be proven.

OK use your imagination in the realm of making changes in a fork where any change imaginable is possible. That is what the original thread was about i.e. BPs are special user accounts with a very high privilege level and as such should be treated differently with KYC constraints on those accounts. Does that fit better? If not think up your own fork rules. Literally anything is possible.

So, here's a very basic idea, would this concept work? :
1) A group of people form their new BP — with at least the minimum system performance necessary to meet the published standards.
(of course, also can submit existing BP)
2) This new BP announces: "Hey, EOS community, I want to be an eligible BP!"
3) Tech review from a committee to verify technical competence.
4) If yes on 3) , then community at large votes thumbs up 👍, or thumbs down 👎 to decide if they're eligible based upon reputation ( 50% + 1 approves ? )
5) If thumbs up, the new BP enters the 'BP Randomizer Function' ...
6) Randomizer simply selects the next BP at random (from the ENTIRE group of eligible BPs not just Top 21) — thereby ensuring complete fairness across ALL BP's regardless of size.
Would this work — what am I missing ?
+1 on this idea. Seems perfect. Any objections? Just to add: Any committee should only provide suggests to the community, and shouldn't be centralized gatekeepers. There should also be multiple committees to prevent undue power resting on a few.

We agreed that its possible to have a game's servers move to a different host if it's open source and not decentralized. But in this case its important for the data to be on the blockchain so that all transactions are publicly verifiable as the digital assets being transacted can potentially be very valuable.
Yes, we agree that it would be optimal to only verify the data and transactions that need verifying. What do you think of Blockstack?

Yes, it's a generalization. I didn't think I needed to parse words. 😩 I didn't say 21 producers is not secure. It's more secure than mining pools. I just think randomizing selection could be something worthwhile to look into for security, if vote buying/collusion becomes a concern.

All I'm saying is under free market principles, the fee would be the same. Say you got charged the equivalent of .10 USD for 1,000 transaction on EOS based on inflation. Under a competitive free market fee-based coin, you would be charged .10 USD as a fee. It's the same thing.

Any technical mechanism can be gamed, trying to implement some kind of solution for selecting BPs based on subjectivity will only result in a cat and mouse game. The solution is community pressure.
- Many exchanges are not transparent with how they use stakeholders tokens (Bitfinex is a model community member here with their Ballot Process) ... Pressure non-compliant exchanges.
- Many users are not staked and voting, inform the community.
- BP transparency and community awareness is low, develop tools for the community.
Well, my proposal is not "based on subjectivity", but rather 1st meeting a __minimum standard for certification__ (ie. objective, not subjective... from a technical standpoint)... then shuffling among those qualified BPs for block production.

You have fair concerns, consolidation effects on decentralized networks are extremely common. The difference between this one and most of the rest, is in this one, the users can actually exert some power.
Yes, I'm a self-described EOSIO / DPoS fanboy... but I __always__ question the current paradigm... probing at the perceived weaknesses of a system can only make it better over time... I'm wrong 95% of the time, but when I get it right, it can help improve the default system. 🤓

The block rewards should be adjusted to be what BPs consider a fair compensation. I've argued for a strategy-proof auction system.
I'd like to take a look at these arguments please. Link to the beginning of these arguments?

Any technical mechanism can be gamed, trying to implement some kind of solution for selecting BPs based on subjectivity will only result in a cat and mouse game. The solution is community pressure.
- Many exchanges are not transparent with how they use stakeholders tokens (Bitfinex is a model community member here with their Ballot Process) ... Pressure non-compliant exchanges.
- Many users are not staked and voting, inform the community.
- BP transparency and community awareness is low, develop tools for the community.

Would this work — what am I missing ?
easily gamable, overly centralized. It sounds like a complex beaurocracy IMO.

Voting patterns, motivations are exposed. Bad harmful motives vs healthy good motives. B1 will be voting with their tokens eventually, and they are just sitting back and watching the cards unfold, the hands being revealed, the landscape is dancing and they are just preparing their song.
Collusion can happen without anyone knowing. This system doesn't incentivize exposure.

Nothing too complex. Just the basics: "my free market, objective, solution to the problem of BP rewards would be a type of auction. A list of suitable BPs are decided on by voters, and suitable BPs will compete with each other using bids to determine the best price. This auction system should be incentive-compatible / strategy-proof"

I didn't say it would be superior. It's obviously exactly the same. I just disagree with feeless being a feature when there are fees through inflation.
There are aspects you don't seem to have considered here, because the lack of transaction fees is a __huge__ feature, even though there is inflation. It removes a great deal of friction in terms of the practicalities of designing dapp business models. Likewise for general use of the network for users. There is a vast array of use cases which become trivial to implement with no transaction fees, which would be infeasible otherwise.
There are other points too, such as the presence of transaction fees creating a situation where every interaction with the blockchain can become a taxable event.

There are aspects you don't seem to have considered here, because the lack of transaction fees is a huge feature, even though there is inflation.

Just concidering the fact its possible for a web application to stake a simple domain hosted on eos for whatever.whatever is mind blowing. Its basically pay once for what you need and add as you grow and sell when you decide and it *could result in a gain even in the event your website generates no revenue. Thats just a simple example of how grond breaking this is... Wait until its a premium to have eos real estate.

EOS is a delegated proof of stake coin. Instead of Miners, we have Delegates, or "Block Producers" that produce the blocks. To become a Block Producer, the community has to vote you in. Anyone with EOS tokens can vote for Block Producers. People try to vote for block producers that add value to the network, either by creating tools, incubating Dapps, educating the community, or some other impressive thing that sets them apart from the other BP's out there and hopefully helps to make the network better and the EOS token value higher (theoretically).

What's this voting all about? A brief explanation would suffice.
To make EOS better, faster and more efficient every user could vote for his BP from the list or delegate his voice through proxy if you are not sure what BPs are the best for that very purposes. The most user-friendly interface is available through #myeoswallet by Attic. Enjoy the service, explore more the EOS-ecosystem

It's been so long... By this time the hacker would have sold the eos 100 times over into other coins
A
Aravind08:39:51 - 28 Sep 2018 [UTC]
The problem with ECAF is that it takes so long to respond....
This reminds me of the bank theft in Bangladesh (?) I think.... Some genius hacker entered their national banking system and tried to send money to various other accounts worldwide, but luckily seeing such high transactions from Bangladesh bank, the bank at new york somehow raised a red flag and reverted the money back to the bank

That make sense of what happened with the announcements, it seems the app got rejected. I have submitted to Apple. Once rejected you go back to the back of the line in the approval process. They submitted maybe a month back, and that is why Dan shared BIG news announcements. BUT it didn’t got approval before the hackaton nor the blockchain life. If this is true I say before next Wednesday 🤷🏽♂️

And also, is there anyway to get RAM without buying it, for example, I'm still running off of the original amount of RAM given to me from the launch, why did I get that amount?
If you have not done so, if you unstake any amount of EOS you will get about 2k more of ram from the last update. That will add to about 6k on the genesis.

Interesting... So unstaking EOS right now will get you 2k RAM

This is confusing to me.... From the last update, amount of RAM needed to store accounts decreased.... So I was expecting my RAM utilised to decrease, but I ended up with extra ram ... That extra ram came out if thin air ??

What increased is CPU efficiency, now you need half. RAM was done by giving that amount.

Did this new RAM come into play due to the whole RAM speculation issue?

So every time cpu efficiency increases, we'll be getting more and more free ram ?

The Ram issue was the result of the mess of the new ram contract that adds 1k per block. They made an error in the programming that was resolved with one time free RAM gift.

And this was consistent with the amount of physical RAM our BPs have ?

I looked into the process of deriving eos private keys from a Ledger's mnemonic seed. It's not difficult, but there is a potential stumbling block, depending upon which tools and WIFs you use.
