Question trying to change permissions to access my eos via grey mass using my ledger nano If there is an error with the key entry I read you could lose access. I can still have access via my original genesis keys in another wallet? Thanks am nervous on losing my account.

No. Wallets only allow you to interact with the blockchain. All they do is send signed messages to the network. The blockchain/network only sees the messages, not the wallet they came from. So when you change your eos account's keys, that is an action carried out on your account on the blockchain. Your previous keys become invalid if you overwrite then with new keys.

There are many options open to your because of the huge flexibility offered by eos when it comes to key management. How do you want to set up your active and owner keys? Do you want them both to be keys controlled by your ledger? (You can access a virtually unlimited number of ledger keys)

You could test the process by first changing your active key, and seeing if it works. Then you can change your owner key. Another option would be to send most of your stuff to a different account, change the first account's keys and test it. Then send tokens back if it's all ok.

There are ways around it, were you to consider eos a currency, but eos tokens aren't intended to be that. Eos is a platform, with eos tokens being linked to network resources (as you know). Upon the eos platform I think will be stable coins and pegged assets. These would be a candidate for currencies. There's also plenty of room for people to build various payment networks and dapps, filling various niches.

I still don't follow properly. When you say, "maybe use eos for instant finally" do you mean the eos token or the eos platform? I don't see clearly what problem you're trying to solve, and where you think the eos platform has a problem.

If a retailer wanted to accept eos, they would need to purchase and stake eos. There is a risk of the value of eos dropping, and the amount of transactions per day fluctuates. Unless i'm wrong on this, there is no amount of tokens you can buy that guarantees a certian amount of transactions per day, endlessly.

Why's it necessary for a retailer to stake eos tokens to receive them from customers? Surely a customer can just send them. Eos isn't supposed to be a currency, so payments should be done with another token such as a stable coin or pegged asset. If eos were to be used as currency, volatility could be avoided by exchanging it for a stable coin or pegged asset on the eos blockchain. Or failing that a service equivalent to bitpay could be used.

Yes. But so long as one is correct you can still move tokens. So if you changed active and verified that it works, you could then change owner. If you accidentally set the owner key incorrectly you can move tokens with the active key. And vice versa.

Ok well here's the thing. Eos isn't really made for being a currency for retailers. It's a currency for dapps to use to compete for network resources. It's not really about participating in the outside economy, it's about building it's own network economy. Once it's economy is strong and EOS has value, then it will be easier to trade with outside economies.

No you don't have to run any nodes. EOS is very effective in that there are only a few hundred machines that run the network. The token holders just send simple voting transactions to the network to tell the world which block producers they want to be responsible for creating and signing blocks.

EOS tokens themselves do not give staking rewards. But you can rent your staked tokens to someone and they will pay you rent for it, but it's only around 0.03% per week at the moment at eos.chintai.io. Rates could potentially get better when REX gets implemented and there is a more native way to do this, but hard to say. But there are already a lot of new projects with their own tokens built on EOS and they give staking rewards directly (in form of more of their tokens). Noteworthy tokens that reward you for staking that come to mind: Karma, HorusPay, HireVibes (HVT), Parsl (SEED), Pixeos, Patreos A popular way to trade these tokens is on newdex.io via Scatter.

Compared to traditional cryptocurrencies EOS is a bit different in regards to private keys. Your EOS account is a 12 character name. That is where your tokens are attached to. Attached to that account is a public key that starts with `EOS...`, the associated private key (which starts with `5...`) controls that account. At any point in time if you wanted you could change the keys on that account and the tokens are still attached to that 12 character account name, and then controlled instead by the new keys you submitted.

Nothing.. User got phished by a fake website and he entered his private keys.. So it was users mistake.. After knowing this BP blocked hacker account to avoid that person to sell and exit.. In other blockchains there is no way to protect users from such loss but eos can protect users..

Perhaps instead of requiring users to actually actively vote or appoint a proxy to renew their decayed voting strength, make it such that existing votes are automatically renewed when the strength drops below 80% when there is “proof of activity” — e.g. users does an action on their account once in awhile. “Dead” or “Hibernating” accounts would of course see their voting strength decay to zero.

I know they are never exposed to scatter But there might be other ways that your keys get compromised. For example, you copy and paste them by accident where they're not supposed to be pasted. Or a trojan on your computer steals your files and monitors your keystrokes and clipboard.

I have tried to open a wallet with simpleOS, Scatter, and now greywallet. Each attempt has been unsuccessful for the same reason, my private key is invalid. I even tried to validate my keys on Eoskeys.io and it still shows up as invalid. However I know this is my correct private key as evidence by a screenshot I took from my eos key registration page during my eos registration process (prior to end of token sale last year). When I enter the key, I have absolutely no spaces, all 51 characters, and begins with 5. At this point I really do not understand what the problem is. Can somebody please help? I am very worried. Yes, as others have said, the goal is to steal your owner key and lock you out of your account while they steal your money. There is a real Telos project with real tokens, but they do not ask you to claim or enter your private keys.

Every transaction from your eos account must be signed with your private key, no matter which wallet you use. If a transaction didn't need to be signed with your private key anyone could do a transaction from your eos account. This is why the ledger nano s is popular - it holds your private key in a very secure manner. (Scatter and many other software wallets are compatible with the ledger hardware nano s wallet).

UBI should incentivize participation and exist in a system that feeds data/improves the automated processes that humans once performed/managed. The system should depend on participation (as it does with crypto), otherwise it should go away. It should not allow manipulation by any single person. That way, the system changes depending on the types of actions performed by recipients of the UBI, yet waste is minimized following a free market pattern. I dunno, that's how I understand it anyway.

In contrast look at Pillar. Pillar promised to create an IOS killer. After being around longer that EOS, they have produced... ready for it... a wallet. EOS doesn't need to be as secure as bitcoin, it's a compromise. It will do things that bitcoin will never do, and it is best to stay away from certain activities on EOS that really need more security. If a dapp needs absolute security, it should be on ETH. At least for now. Once ETH switches over to POS, well, then it really wont be much more secure than EOS.

I'm not saying that it doesn't have value. Every economy has value. When the EOS economy grows strong, it's currency, EOS, will be desired and even accepted as payment. What I am saying is that it's use case is not as a store of value. It's not completely secure like POW chain, and the BPs can conclude to steal your money if they really had the will to do so. You can use it as a store of value if you want to, but I wouldn't advise it.
