Hi All, can anyone advise a popular software wallet for Mac to access my EOS wallet and account? With the ability to stake/unstake, vote, see my airdrop balances etc? I was looking at using FairyWallet with my ledger nano S, but it seems i need to go through a portal to pay for a new EOS account, even then I would still need to access my existing EOS account to send everything there. Not sure if I would need to send all the individual airdrops separately also.

i have to admit, for the most part blockchain+games really baffles me. I get it if I can use the gold mined in that game as gold in another game. Thats pretty gool. But what does “powered by eos” mean for that game? What benefit does having in game transactions have over just having it centralized?

The main benefit would be the transparency. I.e. in other centralized games it can be unclear what a particular item drop rate may be, esp for gambling dapps.

I think its better to earn crypto or EOS, by building useful things or participating in the economy some way, just like we would with our local fiat currencies. Too volatile to have your entire salary in cyrpto but it maybe better suited to digital content and intelectual property. In every day life, if we want more dollars or pounds, we dont go and buy them, unless we are going on holiday or currency speculators. Our first port of call is trying to earn it. If we buy other fiat currencies, it is for a short period for length of the holiday, so we are not usually too concerned about price fluctations. If we are currency speculators, then any gains or losses are part of the gambling nature of currency speculation. I think we can transfer this logic to crypto.. If we buy crypto with another currency, it may be required for a use (payment or using a dApp), in which case price fluctuation is usually not too much of a concern. Or we are buying the currency to speculate on its performance versus another currency, in which case gains and losses are part of that game. If its store of value one is looking for, then Bitcoin is possibly the best bet, in which case, buying outside of the bubbles over the last 10 years would give you just that. It is not surprising to lose value in the short or medium term against fiat currencies, if buying during a bull run... although historically, bitcoin has always surpassed previous ATH after suffering 80-90% losses. Sometimes it takes a couple of years, but then if buying for long term store of value, you should be fine. Rant over

I have been in the space for a long time. I usually form solid opinions from hours of research and I ignore what the flocks tell me. IMO Bitcoin will experience a double spend attack shortly after losing its position of dominance (especially after the halving of rewards) Bitcoin was an idea, not a final product. EOS is far safer and better as a store of wealth because it takes the human element into consideration. The next bull run will be caused by EOS or Security backed tokens like CHX (own platform).

Same here, I lived the doom and gloom of 2013. Im not so sure that bitcoin will demise, it’s still more than half the entire crypto market, and with blockstream putting satellites in space, leads me to believe it will evolve and survive for quite some time yet. I also think EOS has great potential, which is why I have a decent stake in it. I was just making a general point about earning crypto and price fluctuation concerns, I didn’t want to talk about EOS in terms of store of value since it is a very new platform and could weaken the point I was making, but I’m confident it should do well over time. Im still learning about EOS and the implications/effects of DPoS.

I'm pretty sure you are talking about science. It can work completely remotely, yet instantly scale back when connections are restored, to enjoy those greater efficiencies, without becoming enclosed. All in all, new tech and structures might be able to shift qualities historically attributed to the other. Progress towards greater autonomy can be made, it is not all a matter of tradeoffs.

yep. it would require a lot of work to integrate it into Ledger Live software i think as EOS works very differently. and i think unlike the apps on the Ledger device it is up to Ledger company themselves to write that software update. and right now i guess they dont see a reason to (yet)

in scatter, its' {''error'' proxy not found} and in eostoolkit I get failure of the tx even though my proxy settings were good and the account shows up as a proxy in eostoolkit......

I would like to see groups setup bare metal bp infrustructure at low latency locations that is rented out to bp currently voted in. I had been waiting for a secure and stable way for me to interact with EOS, preferably using native desktop Mac software, a node or connecting to a node. I did not want to risk entering my private key into 3rd party browser plug-ins, websites or even software, until it has been thoroughly field tested. Ideally I want my private key generated in cold storage on my ledger. Although I’m unsure of the implications of switching account.. for instance, do I need to send air dropped tokens individually? Do I lose any other standing from moving my balances to a fresh account secured on my hardware wallet? With other assets where I run a node, i simply “add account”, generate a new key with my device, then send the balances over. I’m not fully up and running yet, but I’m enthused to learn more and engage with EOS. I’m particularly interested how to build truly community driven projects, services or activities (dApps). You don't actually need to change accounts, just the key that controls them. So you can change the underlying key to your ledger key without affecting any of your account details except for the key registry

The link which @orange777 gave you in the fairy wallet group was for changing keys for an existing account, with a transaction which can be signed on an airgapped machine: https://colintalkscrypto.com/eosio_offline_active_key_changer/ It may be overkill, but you seemed adamant on the point of not trusting software. It's very simple to change an account's keys online using, for example, scatter. You can change the key(s) to the key from your ledger and then it'll be quite secure. But you need to import your genesis private key into scatter first to do this, which is what you didn't want to do. Also consider sister chains which may exist, using your genesis keys, such as Telos.

In our wallet? If you're looking at an active wallet its under Wallet -> Advanced Actions -> Broadcast Signed Transaction. But you want a watch/cold wallet pair to do offline signing (sign on cold, broadcast on watch).

Creating and maintaining new chains for every dapp is not economically viable. Majority of Dapps will run on mainnet and some will eventually go to their own chain if they outgrow mainnet. The belief that IBC==no dapps on mainnet is misplaced. There will be huge demand for EOS tokens/resources

That's not true per se.... EOS holders will at the best Recieve 3 % for which they will do lot of gimmicks to cheat their own people which is per se not that easy .... If you think holders are not cheating then the benefits are very man .. which will never happen without DAO ..... Just look at dash vs BTC bch adoption in Venezuela ... Dash is 1/100 of BTC yet managed more adoption only because of DAO ...... What if BTC had dao in it .. we would have achieved mass adoption by now in my Opinion

But remember anything released with the legal process involved is long term success.. There are many other companies who only cares to pump their own bags and they are under the radar of sec.. Some feel the only way to meet their specific needs is with direct changes to things like the chain and http plugin along with their own system level contracts. Idea for those building out portals to view referendum / polls such as bloks.io, eosauthority, etc: Why not, by defailt, only show proposals that have, say, a million token votes? Users could check a box to view all or search of course, but the point would be to hide all the pointless spam on there. This would create a situation where any serious proposal would have to do some marketing, send the link around to the community/proxies, similar to getting signatures before something is taken seriously.

You'd probably want a "New Referenda/Polls" tab to see those under that filter mark, but otherwise a filter on those over say 1 week old that hasn't reached 1m votes seems a healthy proposal

Agree - also surprised at the seemingly increasing trend of forks that don’t drop on main net, kind of like steem and eos not dropping on pts/ags. Bit of a piss off. Starting to wonder projects think forking is cheaper than acquiring main net resources, be interesting to see a comparison for a given tx load

I'm thinking about it in terms of proposals that should really be taken seriously by the community (and those outside the community evaluating the value of the referendum system). Getting over the threshold of votes should be fairly easy for serious proposals. Those who want to drill down into the weeds and find dimaonds in the rough can certainly change their settings, but for the most part I'd like to see the portals displaying the best, most active proposals from the EOS communities for proxies, token holders, and outside observers to decide on.

I agree, 95%+ of all dApps should be picking an existing eosio chain to deploy on based upon their needs. The token.. they can have that quite happily on the mainnet too.

They are likely experimenting and speculating that's the case.. and will soon learn that's not the case or they aren't credible enough to keep BP's who rapidly leave and stop producing. It's not as if EOS mainnet resources are expensive anymore, quite the contrary.

Agree, and I suspect we will the fork trend die off as the first batch of startups discover how complex/expensive sister chains are. Need a lot of tx before it starts to make sense

It likely will then become a community momentum campaign approach whereby new proposals need to drum up initial awareness and support via debate and commitments to vote in advance to get them over the "visibility threshold" filter and be considered a credible proposal by the wider community to review

This is why the mainnet exists.. to do the protocol layer stuff for dApps and enable them to instead deploy and focus on their application, not setting up a copy that doesn't interface into the chain with the vastly bigger community and network value.
