EOS has 18months to build a massive userbase before Ethereum 2.0 rolls out in some form. I dunno how much value a system susceptible to cartels can capture. If a social media app takes off on EOS then I can see it being valuable because of open siloed user data but bunch of gaming/gambling apps doesn’t add much value to ecosystem.

Dapps still used eth to build the core mechanics of their value exchange, but take advantage of the benefits of eos for performance. Where does the value accrue? Is it on eth, eos or both? Just that. Airgrabs require the recipient to take action (show interest) and make an investment (RAM) which creates a more active supply base. for Airdrops the RAM is paid for by the issuer.

I'm sure there is a lot of teams on eos that haven't come out publicly yet. But so far we don't have much of anything that's actively deployed that's useful, thoughtful, or well built aside from scatter. We know that block.one is working hard, we know that mythical games and dgoods have promise. But otherwise it's a sea of trash with very few projects announced that are worthy of attention. Ethereum has huge support from teams at Microsoft, IBM, JPMorgan etc, etc. The serious players in the smart contract space that are looking to build, or are actively building are doing so on Ethereum for now. I'm not trying to be down on EOS here, or hype Ethereum. Just trying to be realistic. EOS had potential to capture A huge share of these developers. We just aren't publicly seeing much evidence of that happening quite yet.

ETH tech is vastly inferior to EOS, but at least devs have a roadmap and the foundation/consensys communicate. Since launch EOS has been drifting and no one has any idea what B1 is doing. I would think those large ETH projects with serious investment/sunk capital would find it pretty hard to jump ship when the $4bn gorilla that is suppposed to be building out the ecosystem just sort of drops off the map without explanation

I think it depends on the type of adoption. There is still a strong feeling amongst a majority in the field that eth offers stronger protection against mutability. Most experts will advice big money projects with sensitive data to lean towards eth first. For speed eos is much better positioned to dominate though.

I'm not sure about the hardware wallets. To my understanding, the hardware wallet eats you keys and you never see them again. They are safe from everyone including you. That goes for any coin/blockchain that you use with a hardware wallet.

It's hard to understand what you're saying here. Are you saying that you created a new eos account from your genesis account. And with the new account you've got the owner key being controlled by your ledger, and the active key being controlled by a private key held by scatter? You can change the owner public key using your ledger. You can set it to be whatever you want. For example, if you change it to be the same as the active key you'd then have control over both keys within scatter. You could export the key to a mobile wallet if you wish. I'm not sure if I've understood you correctly though...

Your options are to make a new account outside of a hardware wallet, and then move some resources to it (EOS, Tokens, Ram, etc) or you can ask the Ledger people if it's possible to retrieve your keys.

One can use the ledger nano s to change the eos account keys, thereby avoiding the need to create a new account. It's always possible, though not advisable, to generate private keys which are controlled by a ledger, so long as you have a copy of your mnemonic from when you set up the ledger.

You don't need any unstaked eos. You'll need a little staked to the account to do a transaction. It can be staked to that account from another account if necessary.

You mean the active key for your new eos account? You need to sign the transaction using the active or owner private key of your new account. Sign it from your new account. Are you using scatter, and if so how are you trying to change the key (eg eostoolkit?). Are you logging in to your new eos account, or using the old one?

Great things take time; parallel teams need to be built to deliver new products without sacrificing the progress of existing business units, and that means hiring new people which comes with time limitations that can’t always be shortcut with capital. The truth is, the EOS community’s justified excitement has led to unrealistic expectations to simultaneously deliver protocol upgrades, introduce revolutionary new mainstream consumer applications, and take responsibility for optimal decentralized governance. As we continue to grow, I as CEO, will not foster short-sighted hype designed to solely satisfy unsustainable expectations. Further and most importantly, I am not supportive of rushing unpolished products out the door for purely commercial reasons. It would be easy for me to just go quiet until we release our next product, but communicating consistently with hundreds of thousands of people, while juggling the responsibility of corporate execution is an enormous task that can sometimes feel like trying to satisfy an impossible set of constraints. Why do you think it would cost $20 though? To create a new eos account requires that someone (not necessarily the end user) pays for RAM. The RAM needs to be purchased so that the account data can be stored on the blockchain. RAM prices are the relevant factor, rather than the price of eos tokens. Think of account creation costs in terms of RAM price, not eos price. Also consider that part of the model which is envisioned in the white paper focuses on the ability of developers/dapps to create business models whereby it's not the end user paying for accounts.

Yes. Furthermore, it's possible that you will be able to shop around for cheap RAM prices by looking at the various side-chains which will likely exist for various purposes in the future. When I say side-chain I'm taking about eosio chains linked to the eos main chain with inter-blockchain communication (IBC), using the same core eos token, but separately RAM markets. I'm not talking about the chains you're seeing popping up at the moment which are separate from eos (I'd call these sister chains, but for some reason many others are calling then side-chains). As @randomnobody suggested, maybe we should think of calling what I just described as side-chains as 'linked-chains' or something.

It's my understanding that they would have separate internal RAM markets, yes. I'm not thinking particularly straight, but I don't think there would be arbitrage opportunities between chains because the RAM would be specific to the chain. That's not to say that prices couldn't be manipulated though.

if you unstaked your cpu first, that may be why you are unable to unstake the NET. You need cpu/net to make a transaction and unstake.. you might not have left enough cpu to unstake the rest of your eos from NET

For security reasons because it takes 3 days to unstake, so if you have notifications you could change your active key and rescue your eos. but mostly for cpu, if you transact a lot with a dapp you need resources, cpu specifically.

Yeah the b1 wallet update. My thoughts remain the same. B1 are waiting for the market to pick up before they release anything. It's like this, you do not plant seeds when the ground is frozen. For maximum impact, it makes strategic sense to release the big updates (wallet, rex etc) when the money and excitement has return.

I am a strong believer that as soon as the traditional institutions release their products I.e. the bakkt, nasdaq and fidelity (crypto entry points for old money) then EOS and other crypto projects will release their products with the aim of being number 1 in market cap. I didn’t take his tweets as a good sign but after I thought that he meant that we shouldn’t fight the government openly. Dan’s technique is to make governments obsolete by providing solutions. We cannot know what Brendan was talking about in DC but taking institutions on blockchain was always a plan in order to make them transparent. Because they need to be transparent before anyone else is. If Brendan came back from there with a plan of teaming up with the government and taking people’s freedom away then this is really bad.

You cannot change the name of an eos account. You can effectively transfer the account itself to someone else though. Just get a public key from them (for a private key which they control) and change the account keys. Then they control the account. What is it you wanted to achieve, and would this solve it for you?

What i got out of Dan's post was that it's foolish to look to blockchain tech to secure true freedom and that no matter how good the tech there is no substitute for small self sustaining communities - which are mainly insulated from outside nefarious forces due to their ability to barter amoungst themselves with food and services. In other words, don't expect EOS to solve any of our real problems and vulnerabilities anytime soon - if ever. We're on our own. Dan is not a savior. knocking the ones with history api off would prevent some dapps from functioning that rely on it to get their chain data. but it would not prevent the underlying eos chain from running, accepting transactions and doing consensus

also, running full history, or serving full history might be 2 different things

Running Full history require huge storage resources while serving ( lite nodes ) it only request a fraction of it, thus saving lots of RAM on dApps. Am I correct?
