If your active key is the same as your owner key, it's a vulnerability. You usually use your active key to sign into things, so by creating a new active key, you never expose your originals

you can change both of them.. i'd start by changing your active key.. test out the new key to make sure it works and you havn't made any mistakes.. then if you want you can also change the owner key. yes, you just generate new keypairs and make sure you save them. Then you'd enter the public key into whatever your using to change the keys

I know there are businesses like Hacken and Quantstamp out there who can do these things but they don't seem to receptive to the idea.. i was also thinking of VERIFIED SAFE and FAIR (ongoing fairness checks) for Gambling Dapps. Those with the certifications will prove to users that they are not only transparent and not hiding things - but also in it for the long haul (thus staking more valuable etc)

Like right now we have a ton of gambling dapps that are going around saying PROVABLE FAIR - but no is able to prove it to me. Can i comb through millions of blockchain analysis and do this myself? but better business is basically a scam - i know because i've dealt with them and paid them - it's basically advtising cost (or more accurately a bribe). — but something like this cert on blockchain would have to have technical merit behind it or course...actual work being done to verify the smart contracts, fairness (in the case of gaming) etc..

sometimes for a verification company on an emerging market, the optimal way to do this business is form relationships with other companies, not necessarily being honest and that means getting bribed. cos if u do not verify a company cos they tried to bribe and they turn out to be successful someday, then they will attack u. u lose your business. now having them is almost pointless. hence, we get back to dyor which is the best action to protect yourself as much as possible, or take risks but with minimal stake.

Well,from my own experience than a question. It seems that the limited number of dapps I have interacted with require significantly more CPU than they do NET. I am allocating eos accordingly. 85% CPU 15% NET. Just my thought😁

My comments are based on more than the ruling, but people actively engaged with regulators. The word is regulators are coming for Airdrops looking to skirt securities laws. Several people who are actively engaging with the SEC and FCA for projects on EOS have said this behind the scenes and I heard similair rhetoric at Distributed Markets from regulators in Chicago last year. Might move slow, but once they have all the tousands of ICOs sorted out, the word is they are coming for Airdrops that have the properties of a security.

There are very little places left to actually do crypto projects in a compliant way. STOs are basically the exact same system we had before and only gives access to Accredited / Experienced Investors (depending on what side of the pond you are on). If you use your active key instead of owner, enable some notifications like a telegram bot or email and set permissions with some other accounts in your possession or of your family members then nothing happens

I completely agree, these are logical prevention steps which are effective, and not a problem for people with at least some understanding of how EOS works to implement. I think the problem is attracting new people to the technology (which lets be honest we need for EOS to be widely adopted), and a lot of the scam victims are new to the space and not getting effective guidance in time to put scam prevention measures in place.

Agree in principal, but feel the community needs to evaluate goverance mechanisms after B1 wallet and REX are live. Without B1 wallet users don't feel comfortable interacting with their tokens and without REX users have no real incentive to bother voting. If the 15% threshold is still a problem post-B1/REX then we eliminate it

I’d encourage folks to try out Karma. I just set it up and it has a karma wallet built-in that allows for staking / claiming. The best part was it encouraged me to figure out how to generate key pairs and link them to an account in scatter so I can (finally) set up owner / active key pairs and have a few different accounts. I used to be extremely passionate about EOS. I saw the vision of the way things should be in the world. Since launch EOS has done nothing but tank, 99% of air drops and token releases have been scams, even the tokens with stuff happening have dropped 90%, BlockOne hasn't released shit with our money, there is no transparency from them. I still feel like EOS has the best chance of being mass adopted over projects like Tron, Ada, ETH, etc... but with Blockone being so secret with our money, coming up on a year from launch with nothing to show besides the software is really a joke. Its getting frustrating and I can't be the only one feeling this way.

Exactly. In general a lot of coiners are very naive about what kind of battle this is. It's funny to see how they want regulations from the same people who cryptocurrency inherently is fighting against. I think we will have to wait quite a bit longer before any bullrun this time. People must learn first. The hard way. First the european welfare states will crumble and while robots and automation takes away a lot of the jobs, we will see uprising and far right and far left governments all try desperate things to get the economies going again. Cryptocurrencies will definitely play a role in the turbulent but exciting times we are heading into. A time with not only turbluent politics playing out but also a time with a LOT of technology as well as economic new think on the rise. Also a generational shift. The boomers exited with their pensions..now it is up to us to create a new system.

Disable change owner key function or dont change key at all, better safty to make a new account, auth funciton changing key is too good opportuniy for scammers and very dangerous function. Use NANO LEDGER and read carefully what function do you approve on Ledger.

Perhaps blockchain is more about avoiding third parties having control over our stuff. When people have more control it's harder to create a situation where they're less susceptible to scams.
