This is Dan's comment on Ark trying to do 1 token = 1 vote: "The algorithm you propose was heavily debated in the early days prior to BitShares 1.0 launching. I was originally supportive of the algorithm you laid out, but use Agent86 on bitsharestalk.org convinced me that approval voting was vastly supperior from a security perspective. Under your model someone with 8% can guarantee they get one person in. Under DPOS it is highly unlikely that someone with 8% could get into the top on their own. So far there hasn't been any plans to replace ECAF so if it's gone, then there will be no process to judge whether or not someone has breached the constitution.

Many members of the community believe that the current vote weight of 1 to 30 invites vote buying and that a change to 1 Token equals 1 Vote can work against that." I would love to see a description of the for and against cases. Since I don't understand this referendum well enough I am not going to vote for or against it.

People will always vote for themselves, but that’s not a bad thing; it aligns interests. The system right now is effectively 1 token = 30 votes. Which means a few bps can get together (and have) and vote for each other; this ultimately creates highly organized cartels of BP’s with no ability for anyone else to break in, because the BP’s are all so coordinated and vote for each other, whereas the average voters are less coordinated and their totals can’t compete with a 30 man vote-trading ring. Once this dynamic is gone through 1 token = 1 vote, BP’s will still vote for themselves, but the ability for a new BP to break in one at a time becomes possible, opposed to a new cartel having to overtake an incumbent one with a coordinated vote-trading scheme

if you plan on voting with it you can always stake all which locks it up for 3 days...within those 3 days you can always check the account activity

The value of EOS is found in its limited, performant utilities and monetary policy. More tokens do not equal more resources. Spreading the same utilities across more tokens reduces each token’s utility capacity and value. Each EOS token represents a share of limited CPU and Network capacity provided by Block Producer hardware on EOS. These utilities are limited by real world hardware. As more tokens enter supply, less resources from this hardware are attributed to each token. Adding EOS tokens to supply reduces the CPU and Network share of each EOS token by spreading these relatively fixed utilities across more tokens. The effect is that an action on EOS before adding inflation to supply would require more tokens to execute after adding inflation, all things remaining equal. Reducing the share of utilities per EOS token has another effect. If the utilities capacity of each EOS token is reduced, the monetary value attributed by speculators of each token should naturally follow, as each token bought in the market represents less share of CPU and Network.

People arguing inflation for reasons impacting EOS token price aren't wrong, but it's not the direct impact of inflating supply. The big ones should be fine, topics like the constitution, REX, voting weight, inflation mechanics. Those have been the biggest topics since even before launch. They all have 120 days to be voted on, 15% tokens voting, 30 days sustained +10% more yes over no or vice versa depending on the proposals question. The big topics will slowly accumulate the votes in that time frame. If the big proxies like Starkness start voting, then I expect the other big proxies to vote, like Chintai. The first large proxy to vote will start the domino effect of large proxies.

i can’t discuss the drama proposal in a serious tone here for several reasons. i don’t know why anyone would. and if eos drama was a 100% serious group that didn’t add a humorous spin to the happenings in eos then it would essentially become a fud channel that could in fact (maybe, at most) be a (slight, maybe, at most) detriment to the network.

If I recall correctly @daniellarimer went into great depth assessing approval voting (with the help of agent86 from bitsharestalk.org forum?) some years ago. I'd be interested to hear his opinion on this current topic of 1:1 voting. Maybe there'll be some developments in terms of ideas for voting structure in the discussions Brendan mentioned B1 were having recently.

The other side of that problem is that EOS has limited capacity for CPU and RAM. So unless that problem is solved in an inexpensive way it will be cheaper to fork EOS than to invest the millions necessary to run an app on the most popular instance.

Scatter has a huge dApp community, greymass has a traditional desktop experience and MEOW is fully web-based with native hardware wallet support.

The biggest issue is network perspective. Even if a handful of block producers were covertly owned by 1 block producer, it'd still be better than Bitcoin and Ethereum's PoW situation where a handful of miners threaten the network or block upgrades. Infura, an Ethereum ConsenSys company, operates most of the Ethereum nodes on Amazon Web Services, nasty little statistic few talk about.

Regarding Telos base layer arbitration: The original entry into the blockchain is never changed. It is immutable. However, after the arbitration determination, there is a new entry into the blockchain that redirects (moves) the location of the tokens. That's how I explain to those who truly want to learn, and not just argue about "immutability". This IS immutable. It is simply an additional immutable blockchain entry.
