Bitshares doesn't have a long tail. Smart contracts require a hard fork meaning no one can build on it.

Bitshares is not a smart contract platform. Bitassets, dex and throughput are the sellling points. Even today the tech is better than 99% of crypto yet it has faded into obscurity when it should - on merit - be a top 5 coin

No one ‘controls’ EOS. By that logic BPs and the community should not contribute either. B1 has $4bn in community resources they should be deploying to support and grow main net. $1bn to VC (which so far does not seem to be producing anywhere near $1bn in value... and VC ROI is typically measured in multiples), a few million to hackathons and $3bn still parked for all we know. 8 months later we should be seeing a large and well organized marketing machine starting to fire up. Instead we see the occasional tweet from Brendan. I don’t think people understand the sheer scale of resources entrusted to B1 by the community.

Take a bank for instance. If they have a contract with a bank to run an EOSIO chain for them along with upgrades and etc, that single contract alone would be worth more than their entire yearly take of the 100m EOS tokens from mainnet. (even at $10-$20 EOS price) Edit: For comparison, bank of america's yearly revenue is about $100b. Throwing $1b at a blockchain project per year isn't even a dent.

Is this the business model the community donated $4bn to B1 for? Do you believe if B1 had said “Our plan is build private chains for big banks, please donate” they would have pulled down billions from the community? This logic is bizarre to me.

Without transaction fees, some inflation is necessary to compensate the validators/Block Producers in DPoS (miners on PoW chains). 1% inflation is allocated to payment spread across block producers and standby candidates. There's 4% that is currently collecting into the eosio.saving account and not allocated for anything - this 4% is and will continue to be a divisive topic among EOS community members. It was originally intended for "infrastructure," but we're starting to see efforts that would not decrease the utility (CPU & Network) capacity of each EOS token, nor add additional float to market supply - a more ideal way to support infrastructure development, imo.

@daniellarimer I just listened to your talk at Virginia Tech, that was uploaded the 15th of April. I was very pleased to hear you talk about an inflation-based monetary system as a means to get rid of direct taxation. I wanted to let you know that the system you describe is very nearly the system proposed by Randall Wray of the Levy Institute and it has key components in common with Modern Money Theory (MMT). I suggest to you that our current monetary system already has the key features you describe, taxation is already anachronistic and pure inflationary spending is already possible. The biggest thing holding us back is that our politicians (and people) do not understand how our monetary system works, so they think it works like a private household which must "balance its budget" in given time frames. What you are talking about is really perpetual deficit spending, but there need be no "debt" recorded every year as a formality like we currently do. We have to have people and government officials that understand this and that deficit spend in such a way that grows the economy faster than the effects of inflation. How money is spent is critical, far more so than any "debt" the government may have. Thank you for really thinking about these issues and not falling into traditional traps of ideological thinking! I think this is the big disconnect most have in regards to the token sale. People who bought EOS tokens aren't investors in the sense that they invested in b1. They invested in themselves by purchasing digital ownership of an asset. In the original terms of the crowd sale it was painstakingly defined as a purchase of a digital good and not an investment. The money garnered from the sale is purely revenue and considered privately owned funds which they can use for whatever avenues they see fit.

The terms of the auction were that b1 was recieving profit for sale of an erc20 token with no intrinsic value. There is no community funds.. full stop. The terms were very clear on this. They are free to do as they want with their profit. They choose to take 1bn of it to make a vc.. other than that it's probably not healthy to bolster greater expectations than what has been stated. I meet too many teams who are self funded and trying to bring the ecosystem from 0 to 1 with their own sheer will. B1 has the leadership, the technical expertise and most importantly the capital to kickstart / bootstrap the mainnet ecosystem and as much as I respect specifically Dan and Brendan, I think it’s fair to critique the recent lack of delivery. There’s a balance between needing to keep arms-length due to regulatory and/or public chain governance sensitivity; and being so far from the pulse of the ecosystem that faith is deteriorated

He also hinted at 21 second block times. Total non starter IMO for daily transactions. Ok for real estate deals and other slow transactions. But EOS can do the same just by building Time delays into smart contracts.

No. Check eosnetworkmonitor.io from cryptolions. The all-time high observed on the blockchain was 3996 TPS. But that is not to say it's the limit to what can currently be achieved by the eos network. It's just the highest amount observed to date.

Do you know what the $1Bn in VC money is doing right now and has been doing for the past half a year? I don't, majority of the community doesn't and certainly no one outside of EOS does. For that kind of money there should be some noise, but the EOS brand seems to be shelved. Any outsider looking at the EOS ecosystem would have no idea there is $4Bn backing the project. In fact, most folks I speak to believe Eth, Tron, XRP, IOTA and bunch of other shitcoins with far less funding are the future. I'm not saying we should be seeing DAPPs dropping by now (except the bloody B1 wallet), I'm saying we should be seeing much, much more communication and marketing for the amount of money that is currently vested in EOS. 99% of information is coming from a few BPs (struggling to pay the bills) and random Youtube videos (hoping to get a few bucks).

Do you know what the $1Bn in VC money is doing right now and has been doing for the past half a year? I don't, majority of the community doesn't and certainly no one outside of EOS does. There isn't even a simple summary on B1's VC website of where the VC funds have been allocated and what projects they are backing; Everipedia and High Fidelity... eight months later that is all that has been accomplished? For that kind of money there should be some noise, but the EOS brand seems to be shelved. Any outsider looking at the EOS ecosystem would have no idea there is $4Bn backing the project. In fact, most folks I speak to believe Eth, Tron, XRP, IOTA and bunch of other shitcoins with far less funding are the future. I'm not saying we should be seeing DAPPs dropping by now (except the bloody B1 wallet), I'm saying we should be seeing much, much more communication and marketing for the amount of money that is currently vested in EOS. 99% of information is coming from a few BPs (struggling to pay the bills) and random Youtube videos (hoping to get a few bucks).

Maybe if people would forget about that 4b, and put out of mind any possibility of bp % fully absorbing cdf, the wps could get the design and build out attention and funding it would require. Eos is not perfect, in fact, the very structure deciding bps has been deemed too corruptable for wps. It is not time to double down on the bp vote structure, but to further decentralize and layer many systems that are widely varied.

Still the decision seems to be unfair. EDNA was one of the first ideas to be announced, then in progress on EOS. I wouldn't state the other team did not put any reasonable effort, but still if I were a judge, because of using an existing idea in such a relatively small EOS dApp market, they would have -50% of points. I'm not a hater of GenEOS... and wish them good luck. Just stating my opinion... and honestly rooting for EDNA as they deserved more of my respect.

Blocks have 300 seconds before they become irreversable. I have seen then reversing. Because I play casino based on hash, and I saw hashes changing. They blamed on blocks getting reversed. So I need to know how offen it happens.
