I don't think it's possible to know whether this will ever happen. With IBC becoming a reality, we can't say that a platform token will become the money of the web3 stack. EOS could end up becoming the most used platform, with bitcoin pegged tokens being the primary cash. So don't hold your breath expecting this to play out in one particular way.

You could do that. Another option is to use the ledger's passphrase function to get a different set of keys to use for the owner key. Then, assuming you choose a good password/passphrase, it remains secure even if someone gets hold of your ledger's 24 word mnemonic. You have the option of linking **one** passphrase to a PIN if you want to, but you can use an unlimited number of passphrases which aren't linked to a PIN. If it's not linked to a PIN you must enter the whole passphrase every time you use the ledger to access the keys which are protected by the passphrase. If you have a passphrase linked to a PIN you need only use that PIN to access the keys which are protected by the passphrase. Using a second ledger or the passphrase method I just posted about has an advantage. If someone were to threaten you in order to access your ledger's stuff they could easily look at all the paths derived from only the mnemonic seed. With another ledger or a passphrase they wouldn't get this access unless they knew about it or threatened you further. The passphrase gives you 'plausible deniability' because there's no way for them to determine that those accounts/keys exist just from accessing the 'primary' accounts/keys from the ledger. Of course, analysis of blockchains may give them clues depending how everything is set up and linked.

That's not how it works. It's not supposed to prompt you before sending and receiving. You're supposed to access your (entirely different) set of accounts/keys which are derived from the passphrase after you turn on the ledger. Then you can use the accounts/keys. You can link an existing passphrase-derived set of accounts/keys to a PIN now without having to move funds. But if they're not associated with a passphrase already, adding a passphrase will give you entirely new keys/accounts, which is the point of the passphrase.

BUT.... If you're talking specifically about eos there's a workaround. You can add a passphrase linked to a PIN to your ledger. Then get your eos keys which are derived from that passphrase. Then change your existing account's keys to be the keys derived from the passphrase!

Does eostoolkit allow logging in directly with a ledger? They were using altshiftdev before, so don't have scatter installed, which is why I was suggesting bloks.

Longer staking periods are necessary, especially in times like these where there's arbitrations and governance wrinkles to iron out. It's nice having time delays and permission controls. Love how brilliant it is in it's simplicity.

Now your old keys will be for active for sending receiving voting staking etc. New keys will be to do everything above and also to change the active keys in case of a hack

The above is the traditional understanding of RAM. On EOS blockchains; however, RAM is used for permanent storage. One example is how account keys and balances needs to be stored in RAM and accessed very quickly every time they are called upon. So while it may not be the traditional definition of “permanent”, on the EOS blockchain RAM provides a permanent means of storage. Example: 1gb of RAM = 1gb of storage on the present day EOS blockchain. So if u want to store a 4gb movie on EOS as of today, you need to buy 4gb of RAM. SIDE NOTE: In the future there will be solutions where you connect storage for data that doesn’t need as much speed. Examples are picture storage, streaming, etc. Basically, someone could build dropbox on EOS and this will free up some RAM. Users could store transactions on the EOS chain, but the actual data will be stored in a hard drive like service. So a block producer could have one server with a lot of hard drives to store large files. A log of ownership will be logged on the blockchain’s RAM. TLDR: Basically RAM is used to store information, like a hard drive, but WAY faster. ALSO REMEMBER: All full nodes also need the amount of RAM that is used by the chain. Meaning, if block producers increase the amount of RAM, it’ll become more expensive not only for block producers to run, but also for everyone else who runs nodeos.

People who bought EOS at the time of token distribution have automatic accounts created (mostly starting from 'h'). So if you have the tokens at the tike of token sale and have completed swapping, you may use private keys to access your genesis account.
