Gas isn't needed for a snapshot to be taken. There's no ethereum transaction involved with creating an eos genesis block from the snapshot.

You could send the ether to the distribution contract and a little more eos will be attributed to your address, even without claiming it from the contract. Or you could do something else with it of course!

The eos erc-20 tokens will be frozen, so they can't be transferred. Then a snapshot essentially takes a picture of the whereabouts of all of the tokens. This picture is used to allocate the tokens to people's addresses in the first (genesis) block of the new eos blockchain. If your ethereum address is registered your new tokens will be allocated to your registered eos public key. You access them with your eos private key.

It's a good question which is doing the rounds now. Still unclear but projects have been floated that suggest there is going to be a way to get them on the new chain even if they didn't register, but nothing exists at the moment

only if you are sending..... I only recieve

If you only receive tokens in your wallet you don't need any ETH, if you are ever planning on moving them though you do need (a small amount of) ETH in your wallet

You can keep your coins on some exchanges though and they will do the registering for you, iirc

No problem, registering your tokens basically means you are associating your current Ethereum adress on the Ethereum chain with your new EOS address on the EOS chain. If you register your tokens you get a public and private key for your new EOS wallet, which is all you need to access it

No, the ether cannot return from the smart contract. It's entirely up to the exchange what they do in this circumstance. I explained this to you before. Essentially the exchange's ethereum address has contributed, and eos will be allocated to their address if it remains unclaimed.

I do get that it's a smart contract but there is a TxID where unclaimed tokens can be returned after the end of token sale due to not been distributed otherwise if free ETH to block.one. What are they going to do with my ETH then. You know we're human

The eos erc-20 token contract has a freeze function. Anyone can call this function after the distribution has finished. The result will be that all of the tokens become frozen/ non-transferable. This enables the snapshot to take place cleanly, without people continuing to transfer the tokens (which could lead to scams etc)

Check your registration (perhaps at eosauthority.com), and make sure you have the eos private key for the registered eos public key. Put your tokens in the registered ethereum address. That's all you need.

Nothing's moved really. The genesis block of the eos blockchain will have tokens already allocated to your eos public key. Your eos private key will allow you access.

The one beginning with "EOS" is the public key. If you don't have the eos private key to go with it you need to register again with new keys and keep the eos private key safe.

If you don't know where your eos private key is (you'll have generated it along with the public key) you'll need to generate new keys and register again using your new eos public key.
