in order to register EOS tokens, do we need to hold them on a "pure" MEW wallet or can we hold them on a Ledger MEW address to which we dont hold private keys? No such thing as MEW coins, MEW will allow you to interact and play with ERC20 based tokens which the EOS ethereum tokens are based on.

Could eos enable this request to be published to a dex in a private manner without having to trust people to keep the secret? Trusting a price feed is acceptable. I'm not a trader, but am interested to know what can be done. I think it's achievable. If it's already been done let me know - I'm unaware of it.

Don't trust the Exchange to honour your tokens, you don't know what can happen. Plus there can be multiple chains which use the snapshot. Do it the proper way.

Just for you late comers, there are so many ways to Register your EOS.... I like MyEtherWallet with a Trezor. (some folks use other means) Remember... When people ask 'how do i generate my tokens' and they get a random link thrown at them, it can lead them to think that is totally fine to accept it random links thrown at them for key generation. What's stopping the author of the repo from adding in a couple lines of code to do a post request of each private key generated?

Again, fair points, but it's all a balancing act. It's not ideal, but we can at least see the commits. People generating keys online are susceptible to other problems. Really someone should've signed off sandwich's offline key generator and validator to enable people to download 'official' executables but it's not happened...
