I tested a post I found in reddit where the author suggests to change also active and owner key to be on the safe side, but I'm stuck now because I could change owner key, but active key I can't coz I don't have enough cpu... and I don't know how to stake more cpu... with eos tooklit i tried and it didn't work

I think you can change both. According to me understanding if you lose active key, you can still control account with the owner key. But as I don't 100% trust MeetOne, I wanted to change both keys, just the owner is not enough

Never put your private key anywhere, first create your Active/Owner keys from your private key, then only use your Active key in wallets to interact with the EOS blockchain and always keep your tokens staked. If your Active key gets compromised, you would have 3 days to create a new Active key using your Owner key which should always be kept offline in cold storage. Here’s an example on how to create your Active/Owner keys https://youtu.be/nyyE05qFc78. If you use a Mac, I recommend the following method to generate your EOS keypair: https://steemit.com/eos/@eosnewyork/securely-generating-an-eos-public-private-key-pair-using-official-eos-io-code Use this tool https://eosauthority.com/alerts to keep track of all your EOS account activities via email and/or Telegram. If your EOS tokens get unstaked and you didn't do it, this means that your Active key has been compromised and that you have up to 3 days to create a new one using your Owner key, thus making the previous Active key completely useless, so no one could steal your coins in that case.

I did that already and the active key is still the one created initially, with the MeetOne app, owner is the new key. That's why I wanted to proceed to change also active one.

I don't know or care to guess on whether a whale would keep any extra EOS made from speculation of RAM or not, because making assumptions doesn't get any of us anywhere. If EOS alone was down by an incredible amount, I may take your point into consideration. But since almost the entire market is down right now, your argument doesn't have much of a foundation.

You EOS are in the same place on the EOS blockchain regardless of what wallet you use. When it comes to you receiving airdrops, that ultimately depends on which airdrop you are referring to as not all of them are conducted under the same criteria. But most of the recent airdrops are based off of the genesis snapshot.

Most of the recent airdrops are based off of the genesis snapshot at the start of the launch of mainnet. I imagine there will be others in the future that are based off of a newer snapshot, but that is all up to the group conducting the airdrop. Keep in mind that not all airdrops operate under the same criteria. If there is a particular airdrop you are interested, I reccomend looking up the details for that airdrop.

I think you are making an assumption that everybody will make the exact same action, which is naive in itself. For example, if I made some extra EOS off of RAM speculation I wouldn't cash it out. I would hold. There are many different types of players in the world of crypto and not all of them act the same.

Seems sort of unfair that new buyers of EOS are not able to benefit from these airdrops. why should the coins go to whoever held the coins at genesis. they should go to whoever holds the EOS at the time of the airdrop. am i wrong? just less incentive for people to actually buy EOS post main-net launch.

Well...one could argue that these current airdrops were incentive to get EOS before launch. But I see what you mean. I wouldn't worry too much. You're basically missing out on these initial airdrops. There will be many many more and I can't imagine that they will continue to be based off of what will then be an outdated snapshot.

Well sure. I'll agree with you that the rising cost of RAM could deter many developers. At the same time, there are already solutions to this problem currently in the works. But that wasn't what we were talking about. You were saying that speculation of RAM is what is what caused the drop for EOS. I'm saying, no - the entire market is down, which EOS RAM speculation has nothing to with, and trading of EOS and RAM has no effect on the price of EOS.

But that wasn't what we were talking about. You were saying that speculation of RAM is what caused the drop for EOS. I'm saying, no - the entire market is down, which EOS RAM speculation has nothing to do with, and trading of EOS and RAM has no effect on the price of EOS.

EOS is more of a platform for developers than to be a "cryptocurrency" where the masses directly sign up for accounts. If my understanding is correct, mainstream usage of EOS mainnet will probably be in the form of end-users creating accounts from within one of the Dapps, which will be subsidized by that respective business/dapp's model.

The problem is that guy was complaining about the cost to do an airdrop, but had NO intention of doing an airdrop. He also had no context for his claim that it was too expensive.

I am talking about cost right now. If we start on EOS benefits over other blockchains, space is not enough. The basic thing is that people have been paying fees for everything and now complaining about EOS being costly. Go and build on other blockchains if they are so great and we will see how they compete with Ethereum gas prices skyrocketing everytime there is a dApp comes in and become successful.

Well for an acount to exist on the EOS blockchain there needs to be a certain amount of required resources allocated to maintain that account. EOS works as that resrouce.

With EOS toolkit / scatter in the change permission page I enter at the top myaccountname, then on active (what I want to change) the new public key I want to use. Okay, so you clicked on the drop down button to add a new 'pre-saved' address. The label field is asking you to put in a label for YOU to identify that key. You can save it if you want. But just clicking on the address field and not the dropdown button will allow you to enter your account name without saving it.

So if EOS are staked, when you give the command to unstake them it takes 3 days. So let's say a hacker gets into your account. If your EOS are staked, they have to unstake them and wait 3 days until they can move them. If at any point within those 3 days, you see this...you can just restake them and it resets the 3 day period.

There are wallets available for EOS account holders - Greymass, SimplEOS, cleos. But none for iOS yet. Block one is working on a dapp that allows your mobile device to work as a hardware wallet though

It costs you, but they can transfer some of their EOS (3 or so) from the exchange to cover your costs.

I created one of my accounts with them. They staked .2 EOS and bought about 4k RAM for my account. You only give them the public key so they can't take your EOS.
