You can create an account and give permissions to public keys. You can generate the private keys on an airgapped machine. There are active and owner keys. You could bring the active key online, leaving the owner key unused.

Minimum RAM needed is ~4kb. Best to keep a bit extra in case you need it. Although tbh if you have 1800 EOS then keep 8kb. It is good to have a buffer. Selling 4kb for 2 eos when you have 1800 seems unnecessary.

Yes you will need to download the Scatter chrome extension and use generEOS 's toolkit. Tutorials on YouTube, I recommend subscribing to both nsjames (scatter creator) and generEOS (block producer) to stay up to date. GL!

Please note, I'm just guessing based on common sense... I suppose you just put your account name in the 'address' section and nothing should be required in 'label'. I guess 'label' would be the field for a memo. They should say account name and memo rather than address and label.

You can't 'find' a private key which will work if you used a phishing site to generate your key pair. The only option is for you to wait and see if the community comes up with any solutions. You could maybe stay up to date in the @EOS911 channel I linked you to.

Hmmm.. Which interface is this? Didn't one of the exchange do something strange like asking for EOS public key and account name? Could that be it? Which exchange are you using?Is there a withdrawal fee? You could try a tiny withdrawal first if the fee is low. Probably most sensible would be to look for information from them or contact support.

I'm out of touch with any proposed solutions to this kind of problem. Are any block producers grouping together to donate to people who fell for scams? The problem is that accounts cannot be accessed without a private key, and you don't have a private key because you used a fake generator (based off the information you gave me). Have you remembered what site you used to generate your keys? The only other option is that it was a good private key which you typed in wrong. But you're adamant that you made no mistake.

the way to find out is to enter the private key you do have into Scatter...and see what the corresponding public key is....then check if that matches the public key that is shown when you enter your ETH public key into eosauthority.com

I went through this many times. Myetherwallet does not generate eos keys. The picture you send me shows that your ethereum address is registered with the eos public key you generated. You did register. The eos account name was generated automatically. The problem is that you went somewhere weird to generate your key pair, so your eos private key is invalid.

Ok. They tried in another wallet too. By the way, apparently there was a bug entering a key this way in scatter during the setup wizard, but in the keypairs panel it should be OK.

Good news! Your private key is valid and produces the correct public key. I just tested it with eosauthority's private key checker which I suggested to you (you said you'd try it, but I guess you didn't). https://github.com/webdigi/EOS-Offline-Private-key-check I don't know why it didn't work for you in simpleos. I've found out though that there still seems to be a bug in scatter. If you use scatter you'll need to paste your key. When I typed a key I got an invalid key error on the 50th character. So you can access your eos account! 🙏

I don't know what you did wrong with simpleos, or if you tried the eosauthority key checker. But with scatter i think that it's not your fault and there's a bug which means you cannot type your private key, and would need to paste it.

Plan B referrs to a contingency plan. Examples.. 1. You forgot to register your EOS tokens and now you are scared you might not get the new EOS tokens... well there is a way for people like this that did not go with plan A which was registering but I'm not sure how to execute plan B as I went with plan A. 2. You didnt take your birth control and now after a night of boozing and fraulocking without protection you are needing a plan B so you go to the pharmacy and they give you post intercourse contraception..

I wonder if I should offer to occasionally help people to create accounts. People with eos on exchanges are slightly stranded. They need an eos account to withdraw to. They could withdraw a couple of eos to __my__ eos account and give me the eos public key(s) they want to use, which they'd have to generate. I could then create their account (with their chosen name) for them, and send any surplus eos to the new account for them. Downsides are that they'd have to trust me with the two eos. I may get inundated with requests, and I struggle with time as it is. Also I'd worry about liability and people's ability to correctly manage their keys. It should be a service offered by exchanges, but I've not heard of them doing it yet. Smart contracts will be able to do it in the future (possibly requiring eos storage to be implemented, or for exchanges to broaden the scope of their withdrawal processes).

Should exchanges like bitfinex have a table similar to eostracker showing the total votes from their users going to each bp? I feel this would provide a great deal of transparency and remove a lot of confusion/anxiety around the proxy voting coming from exchanges.. it can be analysed but in a hard to view format for public. if you registered properly then you can check your mainnet eos account by pasting your eos public key e.g. here: eosflare.io, it should bring up your eos account name and you see the mainnet tokens there

I was told by the developer of scatter that the bug want present in the keypairs panel, but it seems that it is. I was unaware that it fails with an invalid key error when you type in a private key. You'll need to paste.

is it the bug that it says wrong private key when you enter it letter by letter on the initial onboarding screen?

No. I checked with nsjames about it before I directed Tom to scatter, because I was aware that typing used to cause problems. He said the bug was still there in the wizard, but it was OK in the keypairs panel. I tried the keypairs panel today and it have the error upon entering character 50 of 51. I let nsjames know about the problem in the scatter group earlier...

i recreated my owner keypair twice before I thought to check if pasting the whole thing in would make a difference....others I have helped have not thought of that solution so I suppose it must be an issue

That was based on the information you gave me. You cannot generate eos keys in mew. You couldn't tell me where you did generate your keys.You said your key didn't work in simpleos or scatter (OK, there's a bug in scatter). You said you'd try your key in the eosauthority key checker (but I guess you didn't). I assumed it was likely that you'd gone to a scam website to generate your keys.

They were staked by default. You must unstake before you can send them. Staking EOS gets you voting rights as well as reserves network resources for you so that you can interact on the chain.

Yeah they start out staked. Which was smart because it's a 3 day time delay security feature to stop hackers from stealing coins instantly. Now you have 3 days to notice your stack is unstaked and there's tools to notify you of this.

Yeah it's self replenishing on a time scale. After a certain amount of time, you recover all your resources. Only ram is a finite scarce resource.
