Eos is getting messy everywhere. From the creation of eos keys for the swap, to mainnet launch that get delays, now we cant vote unless we exposed our private keys to an unofficial voting site. If we get scammed then its our fault. Any safety protection here guys for the noobs?

I think this will not be finished until a few exchanges decide to vote (and basically decide on their own what BPs to choose)
Thats not allowed, it will result in banning, exchanges cannot vote on behalfd of it's token holders, they can only provide a resource to vote like Bitfinex is going to do

Based on comments and feedback this morning, it's clear there is a need for a user-friendly tool that is endorsed and supported by the BP's. We wanted to stay neutral in regards to voting, but the need for endorsement has been brought up quite a bit. We at EOSMetal have tested Greymass with our own EOS tokens and we wholeheartedly endorse this as an easy to use tool. This Steemit post has a good tutorial on how to use the voting tool:

Two problems; 1 problem is that block.one failed to realize how much EOS was left on exchanges. Problem 2 is that developers think that everyone is a developer, like people that smoke weed think everyone smokes weed. Steve Jobs understood this and developed everything from the perspective of the end user. They will either need to create non command line tools for voting, ir significantly reduce the 15% target. My 2 cents.
I kinda agree with this to a certain degree. Is there a way (in fairness) maybe we can vote to decrease the amount of tokens needed from 15mil to 7.5mil because proportionally roughly 50% of the tokens are tied up on the exchanges? Just a thought. I want to see this blockchain active.

I'm NOT going to vote until...
...i have Trezor support for EOS.
Security of my private key is important and i am fully aware of the risks associated with the online tools. I don't even trust my well protected personal computer and they are offering online voting tools ( http://vote.libertyblock.io/ ). No way! Whoever develops support for Trezor, gets my vote. The only way for me to enter private key on my computer is to transfer my EOS tokens to the account i generated on my Trezor.
Educate yourself guys and don't do anything stupid.
Never, ever enter your private key somewhere on your browser, even if they say it is 100% secure.

Eos associated with addresses for which fallback failed will be pooled to an address/account on the eos blockchain. If you wait long enough there may be a way for you to get it, probably through arbitration.
“Addresses for which fallback failed”...
I never attempted to do a fallback registration. My EOS registered address has no EOS in it, but another MEW address does that was not registered on EOS. But I don’t have the private key for the MEW address, so I can’t withdraw any ERC20 tokens right?

Hi guys, do you know if it is possible to use smart contracts from other blockchain as a main token but using Bitcoin?
There are some projects, but their goal is to connect everything with everything, for example Cosmos, Wanchain, Polkadot ... But now there is one in particular called Bitone Network that is in the pre-sale phase, although I think it will be difficult to enter that phase, and this project in particular if it will allow to connect smart contract of other chains with bitcoin. I hope I've helped.

**EOS Mainnet FAQ:**
- Is it live?
**YES**
- Where can I find my account name?
Put your ETH address that you used for the ICO into eosauthority.com
if you didn't participate in the ICO, you do not have any EOS on mainnet. you will have to wait a few days for exchanges to unstake their EOS.
- How can I check my EOS balance?
For liquid EOS on the command line:
```cleos get currency balance eosio.token YOURNAME```
For staked EOS:
```cleos get account YOURNAME```
- **How do I vote?**
lots of ways, I recommend greymass's (jesta and anyx) - https://github.com/greymass/eos-voter/releases
for API - https://eos-api.privex.io or http://mainnet.eoscalgary.io
there's also https://eosportal.io which works with scatter (chrome extension)
for the paranoid, you can use the command line: (replace privexinceos with the BP you want to vote for, or keep it there if you want to vote for us)
```cleos system voteproducer approve YOURRANDOMNAME privexinceos```
- **How can I run a node on the mainnet?
How do I compile cleos?
Where do I find seeds/peers?
Where is the genesis file?
How to create an account with cleos?**
check our website - https://eosnodes.privex.io
someone can however retrieve your private key with sessions in a compromised machine. the safest way is to buy one of those cheap used laptops and sanitize it from everything and install nothing but os if possible *nix based and then your wallet
with sessions? no. websites dont have access.
The community is so tough and nobody want to sell, that's why they have to hit so hard. At least they can get toekns from those guys using leverage
I'm NOT going to vote until...
...i have Trezor support for EOS.
Security of my private key is important and i am fully aware of the risks associated with the online tools. I don't even trust my well protected personal computer and they are offering online voting tools . No way! Whoever develops support for Trezor, gets my vote. The only way for me to enter private key on my computer is to transfer my EOS tokens to the account i generated on my Trezor.
Educate yourself guys and don't do anything stupid.
Never, ever enter your private key somewhere on your browser, even if they say it is 100% secure.
Same thing for me with my ledger nano s. I don't care about the voting results. I'm not comfortable entering my private key anywhere
that's like watching paint dry...lol....gonna take forever for this vote to end.....block.one and dan really dropped the ball by not using some of that $4bil collected and 1 year head-start to build a wallet with offline EOS key generation.....HUGE error on their part.....and one of the reasons why I balked at their providing a EOS key generator on their ONLINE website....weak move on their part...because of that, most tokens are now held on exchanges, who probably don't want to risk jeopardizing their investors' tokens without having an official wallet release.....do you know the fallback they'd get if for any reason tokens were lost because of their voting and exposing private keys?....first of all, i don't think the general public would believe that it was their fault, so i don't think they'll take the chance...and most of the other investors --who don't have their tokens on exchanges because it's been engrained from the start not to trust exchanges holding the private keys -- are not willing to risk their investment by exposing their private keys to third-party, dapps that haven't been vetted or backed by block.one or gained security consensus from the BP community yet...an official, vetted wallet should have been released well in advance of EOS 1.0
that's like watching paint dry...lol....gonna take forever for this vote to end.....block.one and dan really dropped the ball by not using some of that $4bil collected and 1 year head-start to build a wallet with offline EOS key generation.....HUGE error on their part.....and one of the reasons why I balked at their providing a EOS key generator on their ONLINE website....weak move on their part...because of that, most tokens are now held on exchanges, who probably don't want to risk jeopardizing their investors' tokens without having an official wallet release.....do you know the fallback the exchanges would get if for any reason tokens were lost because of their voting and exposing private keys?....first of all, i don't think the general public would believe that it wasn't their fault, so i don't think they'll take the chance...and most of the other investors --who don't have their tokens on exchanges because it's been engrained from the start not to trust exchanges holding the private keys -- are not willing to risk their investment by exposing their private keys to third-party, dapps that haven't been vetted or backed by block.one or gained security consensus from the BP community yet...an official, vetted wallet should have been released well in advance of EOS 1.0
"officially backed" ?
D
Danielius19:03:24 - 10 Jun 2018 [UTC]
It is not that no one wants to vote. The reason behind that is lack of educational material from official sources that would provide step by step walktrough (no blaming intented to anyone) along with lack of motivation from the community members (aka EOS holders) to investigate/research topic of vote in more details. It was difficult to watch these thousands, tens of thousands of questions on "how to register my EOS" so it is no surprise that once we are at this stage, such challenges are faced. Moreover, it also signals competence of the community as well as intentions behind investing in EOS (lack of motivation to research can be interpreted as a signal that intention was mostly to buy and have fiat gains from that, which of course is normal intention but it is Achiles heel at the moment).
the top 1000 EOS wallets hold 89% of the tokens. how the fuck are 15% of the tokens going to vote if exchanges don't participate?
it is a conundrum...lol...i know block.one's trying to take a "no hands on" approach to this release, but too much silence or lack of direction in this will force exchanges to not participate to protect the viability of their own businesses until a cold storage solution is created
yes, correct...but from my understanding, that's because all of our tokens were created in a 'staked' mode (loose language used)....and from my understanding, even in the future, any EOS tokens that we choose to stake will have this 3-day release requirement....other EOS tokens that we don't stake will not have that 3-day release requirement.....that's my understanding of it based on what i've heard the bp's talking about....but again, i could be wrong or misinformed
Where are instructions to vote??
How to vote with Scatter and eosportal.io:
1. Install the Scatter browser extension from https://get-scatter.com (for Chrome the ID of the extension in the Chrome Store should say ammjpmhgckkpcamddpolhchgomcojkle)
2. Open Scatter in your browser, it will ask to create a new local Scatter installation
3. Choose a new password for Scatter, make it as long and safe as possible and write it down safely (this will be used to encrypt your data, e.g. your private key locally)
4. You will see a list of 12 seed words, these are simply a backup version of your password, nothing more. Write them down safely.
5. In Scatter if you click "Identities" you should see a random one starting with "RandomRabbit" already in there. You can edit this one going forward. But ignore it for now, just be aware this section exists. (if you're wondering about IDs registered with RIDL's airdrop, don't worry about that for now, that is not ready yet to use)
6. In Scatter go to "Key Pairs" and click the "New" button in the top right. In there keep EOS selected at the top of the form and then paste your private key in the correct box. It should automatically populate your associated public key, verify yourself that it matches your records. Then click Save.
7. Visit http://eosportal.io (important: at this point use HTTP, not HTTPS, don't worry there's no security risk interacting with this over unencrypted http)
8. You should a chain starting with the ID aca376f206b8fc2..., click the SELECT button there.
9. On the next screen at the top there should be a USE CHAIN button, click that and Scatter should pop up asking to add a new Network with the IP 185.109.149.236 (and PORT 8888). Confirm with Scatter that you want to add that. If Scatter doesn't pop up or shows a warning message, make sure that it's "unlocked", i.e. click the Scatter icon in the browser and when it asks for your password enter that to unlock it so that it's able to interact with websites.
10. In Scatter click "Identities" and hit the edit button (pencil symbol) on your default identity (should be only one in there by default unless you added another one).
11. Scroll down to the "Account" section and select the Network we just added from the dropdown (185.109.149.236) and then below that select your EOS Key Pair.
12. If everything is set up correctly then the system should find your account and you should see a small popup to select the account you want to use. It should be a 12 letter name ending in .active and another one ending in .owner. Best to select the .active one, this is typically what you want.
13. Now Scatter should be fully configured with your new main net EOS account. Visit http://eosportal.io, select the right chain again and on the next page at the top click PAIR SCATTER (If you only see USE CHAIN then press that first and after that PAIR SCATTER should show up there instead).
14. After clicking PAIR SCATTER a popup confirmation from Scatter should show up confirming you which account and network you're trying to use. Select the account there and confirm.
15. Finally on the eosportal.io site you should see VOTE buttons show up next to each block producer. Click them to select that block producer, you can do that now up to 30 times.
16. Once you selected all the producers you want to vote for press the "VOTE FOR SELECTED PRODUCERS ( xx / 30 )" button at the top. Scatter will pop up again asking you to confirm that transaction. That's it, you're done!
If you have any problems with this process please mention exactly how far you came and where in there the problems and confusion started.
Question: I registered my tokens via EXODUS and I have my EOS public and private keys.
