Sorry Paul, I rest your original comment wrong. The EOS on MEW are ERC20 tokens which were used just for the snapshot to verify how many EOS you had. Those tokens are frozen forever. You are now able to access your EOS from an EOS wallet using the EOS keys you got from registering. A custom account name is more convenient and easier when accepting funds instead of having an name that looks like gyeumoeb.

Those are premium names you’re talking about, .com, .eos, .uk etc. You’ll be able to bid on them soon, well you already can but the auctions will take place shortly. People will be able to pay you if you had .eos for example to use at the end of your name. I think that’s how it works.

Admin question: Tried to find the anwer to this here and other places - without success: I don't know my EOS mainnet private key. I registered before June 1, I saved my accountname and the EOS address given (on EOSauthority it says "All your EOS will be transfered to..." followed by a EOSxyxyx... address). I saved that too. I can find my EOS amount in raw.githubusercontent. But I can't remember being given a private key! The one on github can't be the private key, can it, because everybody can see it? And if it is, where is my public key? Thanks for explaining what seems obvious to everybody else.

Your account name is visible to everyone, it is the same as your public key on EOS. If you want to send EOS to your wallet you send it to your account/public key. Your private key is as the name already says, private. this key is used to access your wallet.

You have your EOS private key then, correct? You just need to choose which wallet you'd like to use. Scatter is the equivalent of MetaMask, and will likely be used to interact with most dapps. GreyMass has a nice litewallet that can be used to vote, and some other things.
