that's like watching paint dry...lol....gonna take forever for this vote to end.....block.one and dan really dropped the ball by not using some of that $4bil collected and 1 year head-start to build a wallet with offline EOS key generation.....HUGE error on their part.....and one of the reasons why I balked at their providing a EOS key generator on their ONLINE website....weak move on their part...because of that, most tokens are now held on exchanges, who probably don't want to risk jeopardizing their investors' tokens without having an official wallet release.....do you know the fallback the exchanges would get if for any reason tokens were lost because of their voting and exposing private keys?....first of all, i don't think the general public would believe that it wasn't their fault, so i don't think they'll take the chance...and most of the other investors --who don't have their tokens on exchanges because it's been engrained from the start not to trust exchanges holding the private keys -- are not willing to risk their investment by exposing their private keys to third-party, dapps that haven't been vetted or backed by block.one or gained security consensus from the BP community yet...an official, vetted wallet should have been released well in advance of EOS 1.0

You are fine. But you won't be able to vote or transfer them until the 15% threshold is reached. After that you can put them into your own wallet and do whatever you like.

no, that's not the right way to argument here. if someone doesnt feel technically proficient yet to vote then it's fine to wait. if this chain doesn't launch (unrealistic but hey) then we wait and another chain that respects the original erc20 distribution will try.

I will not vote, unless the block producers share revenue with voters. Why voters spend time to find out good BP, and have no rewards? It is the voters determine which Bp produce the block. Voters should be rewarded if they vote for good BP, and be published if they vote for bad BP.

All crypto is dropping right now. I think EOS is dropping more because people bid it up in advance of the mainnet launch. Then when the network wasn't instantly perfect, some started to sell and others followed. This is actually a pretty common pattern. Tron (TRX) just have the same thing happen.

They made potentially world changing software and gave it to the world for free.

No they didn’t they made $4b in pure profit and didn’t think to spend $100-$200k on contracting out a simple voting app (threatening the integrity of the project as only a subset of people are voting) and didn’t fund native support of ledger and trezor apps pre launch (putting probably hundreds of millions at risk for phising or man-in-the-middle attacks). I agree this is potentially a game changing project and I’m very long, this is just lazy.

I agree actually. If you look at our site - eosamericas.com - we state that we as block producer candidates believe low inflation and if elected we will vote to keep inflation as low as practical. BPs do need to be paid (perhaps not $10 million / year) and development projects are excellent for the community, but there may be a time when less than 4% inflation would be best for EOS holders.

I think the game theory suggests that each holder should wait until there are "enough" votes that when they personally vote, their votes will push the total votes to 15%. That means you delay your vote as much as possible so that errors or issues are ironed out but your vote will still count 100%

EOS holders can revise their votes at any time. (Votes also decay so that if you don't update them every two years or so, they have less value.) So BPs can get voted out at any time. Also, failing to produce appointed blocks or letting system parameters (mostly RAM amount) fall below the level agreed to by 2/3+1 of the active BPs disqualifies a BPC.

I'm only commenting on the current scenario not what it should be. My point is if you have 1% of the total supply of EOS. WHy would you vote now and go from 2% to 3% total votes instead of waiting for it to be 14% and you vote so it brings the total stake to 15%

I loved using Greymass. I love it because it is a downloadable app and a wallet too. I can send tokens using that. And also view current voting status within the app.

Even if you had a "simple" voting method it wouldn't change. You wait for people to vote and test the method. Your risk of being phished is higher if you vote when the total votes are 1% than if it was 14%.

Yes. You're right to be cautious. To be safe, you can run cleos. It really isn't that hard. But even easier is the pre-compiled eosc on eoscanada's github page. I have tested Mac and Windows 10 binaries and they run and are secure to the best of my knowledge. They are essentially cleos inside a container and delivered as a binary file.

Only thing 100% is using cleos or the pre-compiled version eosc. Greymatter seems good, but there's always a risk exposing your private keys. Both because people at the other end may be crooks, or because they are legit, but a main-in-the-middle injects javascript code to steal your information. There's also an offline method.

Private keys are the very heart of cryptocurrency. A challenge/response system would rely on a centralized keeper of keys. Decentralized is better and more secure. But you have to watch your keys because there are no do-overs.

Yes. The BPCs who launched the network and Dan decided together not to endorse as a group anything but cleos as secure. However after that a lot of our group made individual suggestions -- not officially endorsed -- about other methods. We recognize that some people will only vote if it is easy. I can't blame people for that. I would only recommend cleos or the precompiled binary version eosc from eoscanada's github. However. the guy at greymatter seems pretty forthright and I have not heard of anyone having a problem - either security or usability - with his wallet. So that is probably what I would recommend to my mom.

Yeah the ERC20 version of EOS is locked down, it can't be transferred. If it's in your personal wallet right now you're stuck waiting either way

"Seems pretty forthright" isn't quite enough for me, and I have concerns over someone who has been heavily endorsing him since the wallet popped onto the scene recently.. Whether these tools are g2g or not I have no idea, and until I have an idea of something I will not trust a private key anywhere, this is purely my opinion, I am always over cautious, paranoid even.. Ill let the dust settle. 👍

Could be a blessing in disguise man. Gives you time to digest all of the FUD and make a rational decision when the smoke clears. I think too many people expected EOS to just launch overnight when in reality it's a long winded process. All things considered I think it's going well, we just need more people to feel comfortable voting with the tools available.

I can never blame a person for being extremely cautious with their private keys. The lack of endorsed wallets at this point is a bit of a fail. Hopefully it will be corrected soon. Mainnet launch is a starting line, not a finish line.

what is the vote about?

Every EOS holder has the right to choose the block producers who will validate transactions on the network. Block producer candidates like my group eosamericas are vying for votes. These same votes are the key to unlocking an official network. It takes 15% of all EOS tokens voting to validate the network. That's approx 150M tokens. Around 2% have voted so far.

Well cleos is the tool he created. GUI wallets didn't come around in time. I personally think it should have been more of a priority, but honestly, it would have delayed mainnet launch another week or so I would guess, to verify it. No one has any patience for delays at this point.

Exchanges have the ability to vote your tokens. Bitfinex has a way for you to tell them how you'd like to vote. Others aren't clear on how or even whether they will vote. Again, this is a temporary problem. EOS will be around for 500+ years & these initial kinks will last a couple of weeks.
