I was wondering - hypothetically if most bps were using servers from one or two providers, such as Amazon... Wouldn't more bps running metal servers imply a better distribution with more redundancy for the network?

metal vs. virtual isn't the issue.. the issue is network/service providers.. it IS an issue that they are all in AWS.. it IS an issue if they are all colocating.. even with bare metal.. in the same data center(s). The more data center and network transit diversity there is, the stronger the network will be. So as far as BPs go.. look for the ones that have a unique location among other things.. disclosure: Yes, I operate a nuclear bunker data center geographically located directly between NYC and London... so I maybe bias in this statement.. even though we are not currently offering a BP.

Thats a great suggession, all big exchanges should open a vote option to holders, but its also require blocking user trade so it seems impossbile because they are making money on trades.

There are a lot of EOS on exchanges, but exchanges are not owners. It is unclear whether they can vote or not. Some say they cannot constitutionally vote. This is the FUD that spreads Fear, Uncertainty, and doubt.

Also, constitutionally, one entity cannot own more than 10% of the network. There are lots of things that can happen, but all these what-ifs happening in the middle of the 15-day or so launch is just nonsense.

Thats a great suggession, all big exchanges should open a vote option to holders, but its also require blocking user trade so it seems impossbile because they are making money on trades.

They can just stipulate that users have to unstake and wait three days to withdraw. Trading won't be affected.

We should make an EOS browser / OS too so all dApps are accessible in one place. Kinda like Google chrome but completely decentralized

You have 30 votes per token, you can’t token put all 30 votes on one BP. Say you had 2 EOS, you can use your first 30 votes (but have to distribute them amongst the BPs). Then vote again with your next Token and get 30 votes again

Well, the top 10 addresses hold 50% of all EOS, the top 20 ca 63%. They all should have a vested intrest in the chain coming alive.. | So, if just 5 of the top 20 would actually have voted, voting should long be over.. [unless, of course, they are not allowed to vote...]

I’ve tried with the fallback method with EOS Cafe tool and it says the private key is invalid. When I check in EOS Authority site, It confirmes and give me the private key. Just need to get my public key. Is there any tool to do it?

No. U can use eosflare.io to see your balance. I guess I'm confused when u say claim them. If you have private key you have claimed it already. Coins don't actually move to your trezor. Just secures your private key.

The private key you have to the eos cafe tool - did you generate it with a bip39 key generator tool? If so you can use the eos cafe tool again, but delete the "0x" prefix and it'll work.

Be very careful when choosing to use your private key, ANYWHERE! Scatter (when properly verified) is safe. Also the Greymass voting tool has been declared safe. Beyond that, make sure mulitiple sources and/or multiple block producers have verified other tools for voting before entering your private keys.

You're going to have to use the fallback method of generating your eos private key from your ethereum private key. Please use proper security precautions. Maybe move all other tokens from your trezor's address first. Then set up a secure offline (preferably airgapped) environment and use a bip39 private key generator such as https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ to get your ethereum address' private key. You'll need your trezor's mnemonic seed phrase from when you set it up. Then you can use your ethereum private key with a fallback tool to generate your eos private key. You can use scatter. If you use eoskey.io you'll have to delete the "0x" prefix from your ethereum 'private key' which the bip39 tool gave you.

I recommend Scatter as a first entry point. It never shares your private key, and you cannot even get it out of the application. It is a tool to vote without exposing your private keys. Splitting voting evenly only affects the bp‘s chosen which is not relevant. These evenly votes would also result in the launch where the legal risk lies..

In my opinion, top block producers can create a repo on github, all of them contribute and build a wallet based on eos tools, easy to use, capable of voting, then all of them introduce that in their website. Thats how you build trust and confidence... As far as i saw all of them promoting different product.

Absolutely. Why are people whingeing when there are so many options? Which ethereum wallets do they use? Third party one's by any chance? The ones we have on offer have been developed by trustworthy groups with history and reputation. Block producers have recommended wallets.. It's bloody simple. If worried about exposing private keys just sign on an airgapped machine, eg tokenica. 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤪

It's done by how many EOS you stake I believe. Each EOS contains 30 votes, for you to use any of those 30 votes, you need to stake that EOS.

Whats up with all the airdrops doing weird times like a day or hours before the Genesis snap? Makes things very confusing to know which ones we are eligible for and not. Apparently you think I'm calling you out for this. I am not. I get being frustrated with people who can't understand this.. but I've been in crypto for 7 years.. and there's a lot I still don't understand. The attitude of many communities (I'm looking at you, BTS) has prevented mass adoption because people who are experienced make judgements on what is "good enough" for user interfaces, etc. It will be the dapps that make the user experience the most natural, simple, AND easy that will win out and thrive in the future. EOS is an operating system. Most will NEVER understand how it works... they bought in because of DAN, or because of Life, Liberty, and Property. They may never use it, and just fund it because of its beliefs. We NEED them to vote. I don't care if I have to do it for them if it means we get to 15% and move on. What I DON'T want is the Whales holding the rest of the chain hostage. If we get to 15% WITHOUT them, that is HUGE.

If the voter turnout is not available, I think Block.One intervention is necessary. I believe voting stakes your tokens for 3 days. This is kind of a special situation waiting for the 15%. I'm not sure exactly how unstaking will happen in this case. Nothing will get unstaked until the 15% is reached though. I'm pretty sure of that.

Once the mainnet is running, voters can move their coins to their own wallets and vote independent of exchanges. So yes, reaching 15% before whales VOTE FOR YOU (if your tokens are on an exchange) IS a big deal.

Not yet. I just read Bitfinex is providing their EOS token holders a tool to vote tomorrow.. that is hopeful. It is not clear whether an exchange can vote using all the the user tokens in their main wallet.. thuse voting in the exchange's interest, not the user's interests.

The creator of Scatter changed to get-scatter because scatter is not just going to be an EOS app. It's going to work on multiple blockchains. They wanted to get away from the eos web address so people don't think it is specific to EOS.

there were basic guidelines on minimum specs. its a matter of outdoing other BPs. beefier hardware would be more respected as far as votes are concerend. but really the most important thing should be detailing in a massive way your plan for redundency and high avaliability which is far more important than hardware specs

You've misunderstood. You should see that ID in the url where you go to get the app in the store. It's not a scatter ID.

I remember seeing something about entering developer mode in the chrome extension. I found this note in the comments of the scatter video: "hey brother a little heads up for the part 0:59 you should remind people to click (Developer mode) top right to reveal the ID Because most people might miss that and think the scatter they downloaded is un-safe."

The number of tokens staked for voting doesn't change. The percent would be the same no matter how many of your 30 votes you use.

I second this, although Scatter will allow you to have multiple wallets if you happen to have more than one ETH wallet with tokens in them.

It doesnt matter, as long as you use your tokens to vote, they are counted the same,..... an example I have 1k tokens, then I have added 1k to the vote total, regardless if I vote for one person, 30 people or 15
