Wow - Really happy now. Thought i'd share in case others could possibly have the same situation... I registered my tokens back in february - back then I made a pdf of the key pair (like a security tosser - not recommended - but i'm likely not the only one that did this, so i'll share) Fast forward to launch of main net - I try to log in using the greymass voting tool to vote - I find my eos public key, it has all the EOS it should, but then when I put in my private key... BAM it doesn't work and I panic. I tried many times, spent hours to search for options - find this group - the lost private key group - got help from (I must add) a fantastic group of BPs with tireless efforts to help me and others - admireable! I register for the 911.recovery - I make my claim with The ECAF (they respond to my case within 24 hours - acknowledging my case & requesting more info - again fantastic suppory system). However no immediate help to get, so I wait for a "lost key resolve". After a while - annoyed - I sit and i doubleclick on the pdf with my private key, as you do when you want to mark something, and I notice that it for some reason only marks part of the private key when I do that. When I do it on my public key the whole thing gets highlighted... - When I tried to unlock before I did copy the whole of it of course, do this is not the apparent reason that it does not work... But I keep wondering why it only marked part of the private key with the double "click-marking" Then I figure that instead of pasting into greymass or scatter - I could try to paste into word tp see what actual characters I copied from the PDF. And now I get confused - because in word I now see that two characters displayed in the private key on the pdf is now in word replaced by an underscore (at the exact place where the "double tap marking stopped") whereafter the rest of the key is accurately pasted (!) I am thinking this must be an error so I try a few times - every time the same result. Now I replace the "underscore" with the correct digits as displayed on the pdf, so I have the full private key in the word document. And I then try to log into greymass again with the private key now copied from the word document - and Heureka... It works!!! And I now again have access to my xxxx EOS tokens! ... So everyone - if your private key does not work if you copy paste from some source document - try checking if it's actually correcly copied by pasting it into word or another text editor.

Then I clicked on the wallet button on this site and logged with scatter thinking that it was safe using scatter. I didn't type my private key. Could not see much there and logged out. Now I can see very different ( much less) amount of ram on my account. Is this a problem?

Correct, but the fallback option never came into existence, or at least known existence, until much later. For nearly a year the website stated registration was mandatory, which is how I found out I needed to register my eth account.

I'm simply not a fan of governance at all. I certainly think that there should be a recovery system if somebody is hacked or stolen from. However, pretending that the governance system is decentralized simply because you can vote for Block producers only gives people a false sense that their single voice makes a difference. Obviously, when BPs can vote for themselves or even delegate votes to their buddies, there is no decentralization.

Question. Suppose steemit 2.0 dapp on EOS... how to compete with the original Steemit if you have to pay RAM in 2.0 to publish content and comments? On the original steemit it is free.

My understanding is only the dapp creator needs to EOS to stake for CPU, ram, and bandwidth, not the users of the dapp. It's like any other website, the website creator has to pay for hosting not the users.

Hey G, you'll only be able to use the eos911 recovery to make a claim if your account has been compromised. They will reject your claim if you just lost your keys, proof would need to be provided if you thought your account had been stolen. From what we discussed it seems you may have lost the keys, which is why I added you to the lost keys group. I've been keeping an eye on your account to see if there's any suspicious behavour, like moving of funds, and I'll continue doing so.

EOS is controversial only because it is introducing a new system of governance, a constitution which makes provision for ensuring security of tokens and tackling scams, hacks etc. It is rocky at the moment but make no mistake, EOS will become a great success after these short term problems are tackled. I suspect you are a trader; you focus only on the short term. I am an investor; I am jumping for joy at these dips and stocking up EOS for the future (5 to 6 years).

i just entered exodus its still frozen

Exodus still have to implement EOS wallets into their app. The EOS you have on their just now are the EOS Ethereum ERC20 tokens. The EOS ERC20 tokens were only used for the snapshot to verify how many EOS you had. Those tokens are now frozen forever. You can wait until Exodus implements the EOS wallets into their app or you can access your EOS from an EOS wallet with the EOS keys you got from registering. You can get those keys on Exodus through the developer menu.
